"every bit that we add adds to the time it actually takes to get to the gameplay that you actually want to consume" That was an actual quote said today by CIG developer @Thorsten-CIG on SCL. If that sentiment pervades through the design teams at CIG, do you know what that means? That means for everyone that wants the minute detail in game play loops like repairing, engineering... having to consider the "small stuff" - they seem to indicate that is the stuff that "gets in the way" of gameplay we would actually want. These are things they've talked about and planned for years... not something we're pulling out of thin air. That is so out of touch, it sounds like it came from some random reddit user. Please tell me this is not the actual thought process of the developers? Thorsten - manually replacing subcomponents IS the gameplay some of us want to consume. And for those who don't want to consume it - they hire us. Wasn't that always the plan? Funny quote - from a LucasArts suit about how they needed to change Star Wars Galaxies (and I'll assume you all know how that turned out...) “We really just needed to make the game a lot more accessible to a much broader player base …There was lots of reading, much too much, in the game. There was a lot of wandering around learning about different abilities. We really needed to give people the experience of being Han Solo or Luke Skywalker rather than being Uncle Owen, the moisture farmer. We wanted more instant gratification: kill, get treasure, repeat." Sounds like the promise we used to have, but is now path Star Citizen is on. Thorsten... Chris.... whoever. Do not make the mistake of assuming the gameplay people actually want and don't want. Learn from the past.
