Transcript of Chris Roberts - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G42MQ1aVjlA&t=2170s : "First off…Like.. A lot of people seem to think of Star Citizen as, like.. PvP "there can only be one"- highlander style; (Right? - I put that in my letter) but it's.. it's not. It's: Yes if you want to participate in PvP or compete against other organizations, we are going to put that gameplay in there. But the design of this is to have like 90% of the universe be AI - you know - like; you know most of your content in the game will be PvE and it's certainly going to be fashioned in a way that if you don't want to engage in mano-on-mano or person on person, woman-on-woman-or-whatever I should say the appropriate setup in terms of competition, you don't have to. And you know; One of the reasons I want 90% AI population is that, you know; the problem with PvP is there is always a winner and a loser and both those people are players who have paid money for the game and you know; not everyone is the best dog fighter - not everyone is the best FPS player or not the best trader or whatever - So the great thing about AI is we can make AI-able levels - So no matter what; whether you're a crappy dogfighter you can still take out some AI pirates and feel like, you know - like "your da man", ya know? Like "Ya I got them, I took them down!" and so that's what we; that's what I really wanna make sure that that stays there, so people can have a good time - So if you're only ever gonna compete against other people then there will always be winners and losers, and if you're someone that's not that great or don't have enough time to really practice up, it'll be a sucky experience for you and you won't play, so I want - you know - people that - you know- fall into that category to have opportunities to go out there and have fun and whip up on some pirates and do whatever they wanna do without having to be forced into head-to-head competition and so based on that side then it's not head-to-head competition in the overall game and the game has that if you want it, and has that if you don't want it; so it's not all about getting - like - there is some master of the universe person you're gonna get to. And so we're deliberately building the gameplay to have gameplay for people who want to play lone wolf style, or play in small groups or play with big organizations and fight over territories, or you know - they wanna do more peaceful style - like- they wanna mine or farm or trade or something or people that want to do more combat focused things like piracy, mercenary or bounty hunter and we're building all those things to be in the universe and give you opportunities to do them both at a PvE and PvP basis and you know there will be areas where there can be crossovers between the two- but it's up to you to do what you wanna do; and in that case this is where I'd set my own win condition - and you know, this is how I'd like to play the game and want games to be and so completely reflecting how as a player I'd like." This is a vision of the game, described word for word by the Chairman himself - a vision that drew many backers to the game and a vision that the community latched on to. The key points are underlined. It has been said multiple times that PvP was a choice, that it wouldn't be forced, and that there would be options for people who don't want to put PvP at the forefront of their experience. The people who want the above vision are a majority. They were silent, but now they are not. Right now its bad. This is the worst that I've ever seen the community... and this feels like only the beginning. It is important to note that Pyro was just the tipping point for this community. The anger has been boiling some time now. To see how we got here, we need to look at the history of Star Citizen's major events: Jumptown (original) - PvP driven Xenothreat (actually pretty good, but no PvP safeguards, wrecks were camped and players attacking Xenothreat ships were regularly third wheeled by PvPers) Blockade Runner - PvP driven (players were promoted to join the criminal faction) Siege of Orison (absolute disaster, utterly destroyed by grenade campers) Ghost Hollow - PvP F8C Hunt Event - (lol, don't get me started. The big battle was in the middle of freaking SPK) Idris Capture Event - Streamer privileged PvP event Jumptown 2.0 - PvP Wake of Disaster - PvP SPK Overhaul - PvP Save Stantion - (Not bad but Pyro Gateway was camped AF, I had to do it at 2 AM to finish it unless I wanted my cargo ship torched) Contested Zones - PvP The WHOLE PYRO SYSTEM - PvP There is a very large community that is starving for PvE cooperative content. Some kind of raid or event that let's people work together without the constant threat of event ruination through murderhobos. But what has been actually delivered? Look at the pattern. All these players have been given is Battlefield, Call of Duty, and HunterNet. All the most significant in-game awards have been tied to PvP events (like the F8). Star Citizen has an abnormally patient community, but that patience is not unlimited. At some point after seeing the trend of events, after years of nothing but PvP content coming out of the feeder, after the biggest release being a full PvP system that now comprises 60% of the game world... The people that signed on to this game because of the words that came out of Chris Robert's mouth (that I bolded above) have been left more empty handed than even the Banu Merchantman captains. There comes a breaking point for these people (and I mean alot of people), where they look back on the systemic pipeline of content that has come out and begin to question if they have been hoodwinked. They have been given nothing. The directional pattern of the game is clearly headed towards favoring PvP. They have been given no commitment or reassurances from CiG that any of what was stated by Chris Roberts is even in the cards. Of course they are mad. They want reassurances and answers. They want to know if Star Citizen is going to be anything more than "Rust in Space." Someone needs to come out and address this community, because if they aren't addressed they are gonna leave.
