If it wasn't the right time to release the BMM, then it wasn't the right time to pick up the BMM for development in the first place. We are years away from the right time. If CIG is going to focus on smaller ships, then they should have done so long ago. The issue, as always, isn't that there's potentially a justifiable reason to do the actions CIG does. There can always be conjured up a justifiable reason. The issue is the flip-flopping of reasons and focus that CIG seem to always have. Staggered development. Oh wait no, quarterly release. Oh wait no, 3-release cycle, oh wait no, when it's ready. Placeholders, oh wait no, polished, oh wait no, alpha tier 0, oh wait no, placeholders for playable alpha. Ships as they are sold, oh wait no, as gameplay is available, oh wait no, SQ42 priority, oh wait no, we've got time, oh wait no, we have no time and the BMM made absolutely no sense to pickup now. The irony is that because ships are with different teams, you can even see different policies apparently guiding different ships through the pipeline. I honestly don't care what ship gets released when. Frankly I think there's too many ships anyway. But flip-flopping between partially finished tasks causes MASSIVE inefficiencies as people have to come back often years later to work that maybe someone entirely different was doing (and might not even be at the company anymore). Picking up half-finished code and work is hard enough when it is your own work and you've stepped away from your train of thought just in a few weeks. There is a reason we are in year 10 in this state of alpha with still no release of SQ42. More than anything else, CIG needs to stop burning through hundreds of millions a year because this type of development is not sustainable with the rate of growth the company is having. It only gets more tangled the more developers you have tossing back and forth reprioritizations company-wide. There mere fact that every year, multiple months at the beginning of the year are spent refiguring out what the goals are and what everyone should do, is a problem. This year, from now until the end of their next meeting and scheduling cycle, CIG need to prioritize only 1 thing: set a plan that will be stuck to. A roadmap, if you will. We as backers don't even need to know it. We'll see the fruits of it as these reprioritizations stop happening. And every developer will be thankful for it as well. EDIT AND CAVEATS: All statements made here should be read as opinions presented, read with the implicit "I think" appended. The thread was made on mobile, and therefore grammatical style and readability were difficult if not impossible to take into consideration. I'd apologize, but that's a flaw of Spectrum. EDIT 2: New thread question: what justifiable reasons do you think CIG had for stopping development on the BMM, and do you think those reasons existed when CIG recently started development back up on the BMM? If you think they existed back then, then why do you think they are still justifiable?
