The extortion thing that is happening now at CryAstra is (I assume) meant to be a form of civil disobedience where players are trying to get CIG to re-prioritize development with a protest. I think other backers should follow what happens to those protesters as a demonstration by CIG of what they define as griefing and how far they will go to prevent it in the PU (even though we're still in alpha). Assuming CIG defines those actions as griefing, what actions can CIG take to mitigate that kind of behavior or punish the players that are doing it? They have mentioned that they plan to add mechanics in game to help prevent griefing (by making it costly and therefore players will think twice) and/or banish players to griefer hell (special instances separating the griefers from the rest of the player population). However, those mechanics are not yet implemented. CIG can rush implementations for protecting non-griefers from griefers (the security turrets, better security NPCs, making more places armistice zones, fleshing out the bounty contract mechanics, etc.). I doubt that this can be accomplished in a matter of days (beyond making more armistice zones), so it is not really feasible to handle the current situation. CIG can cave to the protest and change their priorities for AC. CIG can clarify that the "protest" is not, in fact, griefing, but valid gameplay using game mechanics. Or, CIG can ban/suspend (either until the next patch where anti-griefing mechanics are added or until beta or forever) accounts that are doing the protest. I am a little concerned about open world PvP inevitably leading some (small percentage) of players to rationalizing griefing as valid gameplay and I will base my future plans for pledging/playing SC on CIG's reaction to this "protest". edit: I was hoping to avoid arguments about what is/is-not griefing. The point of the thread was trying to point out that CIG's reaction to the protest illuminates their definition of griefing and what they are willing to do (or not do) about it.
