CIG shouldn't be afraid of giving players long prison sentences for committing crimes. If a prison sentence is too short, it isn't meaningful enough. Having a criminals put away for a longer duration allows lawful players to have some "breathing room" instead of being confronted with them 30 minutes later. Instead of being afraid of long prison sentences, CIG should embrace them, and consider adding a lot of gameplay to make prison interesting, and potentially beneficial to the player in the long run. Escaping prison shouldn't be easy either. It should be rewarding and a feat to manage to sneak out of a prison system. If it becomes too easy? Then everyone will do it and prison will no longer be what it was supposed to be. (Mainly a temporary buffer that separates the offending player, against the rest of the lawful playerbase.) Prison missions should reward the Prisoner with Reputation, Knowledge (Drug Recipes, Ect.), and Connections with other Gangs. Failing missions should result in a longer prison sentence and/or a loss of Reputation with a gang, making these optional mission high risk, high reward. - Missions in prison could be smuggling in drugs, weapons, killing another inmate, or starting a brawl, ect. - There should be missions for players outside the prison to smuggle drugs/weapons INSIDE the prison through different means. - Being in prison will potentially open up easy routes to join different gangs within. A player in prison might have the opportunity to get good standing with Ninetails for example. - Joining a Gang could give you allies within the prison, as well as new enemies if you decide to choose sides. [The idea of prison PVP is REALLY appealing to me] - Talking/Eavesdropping to other inmates may reveal information to the player. Such as a Drug Recipe, where to sell drugs in a certain location, Who to talk to for good criminal jobs. Perhaps rare opportunities such as a corrupt executive at DRAKE who might give you a discount on a new DRAKE ship if you work for him. There should be different levels of Prison as well. A man who didn't pay his parking tickets shouldn't be clumped in with a drug lord. Low-Sec prisons should be a bit easier, less dangerous, and more easy going for low-offending criminals. Possibly easier to escape, but less opportunities for the player to further his criminal career. High-Sec should be very dangerous, a LOT harder to escape, but full of opportunities for that player to further his criminal career. Guards perhaps are more aggressive against inmates, perhaps shoving them and perhaps beating them if the prison you got into was a bit more corrupt. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FINALLY... Reward players who are more professional! If a player does his job clean and isn't just going around killing everyone he see's, he deserves to be rewarded for being a Professional criminal. A pirate who can steal from a ship without blowing up it up is a LOT more valuable than the player who just blows up everything, leaving behind a massive trail of evidence. Such a professional is going to find themselves with better and more exclusive job opportunities. Such attention may warrant a high paying job opportunity. Perhaps those shady business men at DRAKE will consider hiring a Pirate to become an assassin for hire, Tasked with "cleaning up" some of his competition. That pirate now has the option to tread down a new and interesting career path as a professional assassin. No longer just some rugged killer, he'd be equipped for the job by his employer, temporarily given special equipment to carry out his task. (Good reputation with these Professional Criminals might give you benefits such as a shorter prison sentence for example, or protection inside the prison.) This helps promote Pirates to be less "Griefer" and more "Badass Criminal". This makes it fun for both sides as we'll be seeing more people who will want to be the intelligent criminal, rather than the sloppy thug who leaves his wallet behind during a heist. Prison should be part of the Players adventure, not just some 30 minute timeout where they just go back to doing what they were before. It builds character and creates and interesting story. There's a lot of potential in this, it just needs to be found and expanded. [EDIT] To help make prison interesting, Consider making prisoners load up onto a Prison Bus (Genesis Perhaps) and be transported to different locations to do different jobs. Maybe forced to do some Space Whale fishing so people can finally get some of that Leviathan gameplay? I really love the idea of a bunch of prisoners forced to work on a Dangerous planet. One moment you're mining and the next, you see a Prisoner get roasted alive by a sudden lava geyser. [Edit] And YES, I think this should be expanded to being a Slave as well. I find it interesting if you ask me. I personally want to be in this sort of situation.
