Looking For Questions: Star Citizen Live - All Things Lore

February 28th 2022 at 11:37 pm
This Friday at 9am Pacific / 5pm UTC, we’ve got the Narrative Team on the show to answer questions on all things Star Citizen Lore. Be sure to check out this week's Loremasters: Community Questions post beforehand.

As usual, this thread is your chance to submit your questions (and don't forget to VOTE to see which ones you want answered most!) before tuning in on Friday to twitch.tv/starcitizen to hear the answers LIVE.

POSTING GUIDELINES
  1. Questions should be relevant to the topic (and guests) of this week's show.
  2. Only make replies to the OP.
  3. Only one question per post.
  4. KEEP IT SUCCINCT. Boil it down to the thing you really want to know. It helps avoid confusion and begets better answers, usually.
  5. Do not direct a question to a specific developer.
  6. Do not submit one question, gets votes with that question, and then reword the question or replace it with another one entirely.
  7. Do not make use of special formatting in an attempt to draw more attention, and therefore more votes, to your questions i.e. BOLD, H1, etc.
  8. No "when" questions.
  9. No "post-launch" or "release" questions. This is a program dedicated to the continuing development of the game, and focused on the immediate and near-term future of the project. Think 3-6 months out.
  10. No pictures. Make it easy for people to find the question they want to vote on without having to scroll through pictures.
  11. Questions should be related to the development of our games and focused on topics for our developers to answer.
  12. Post violating these guidelines or the subjects of the broadcast may be deleted, as may in-line replies.
  13. Have fun with it.

will we see the return of missions with lore / story behind them like Tessa's old missions, following a quest line and finding a bigger story unfolding if we spend the time to explore more?

The Klaus & Werner laser repeaters are all named after Earth animals -- generally somewhat threatening ones -- with one notable exception: the CF-557 Galdereen. The weapon's description is as follows: "With a bite as fearsome as its fanged namesake, the Klaus & Werner CF-557 Galdereen Laser Repeater is a solid choice for a wide range of vehicles thanks to its high rate of fire and consistent efficacy." Beyond this item, the word 'Galdereen' is not mentioned anywhere else in (publicly-visible) Star Citizen lore or in fact anywhere else on the entire internet.

From the available information, we can conclude that the Galdereen is a fearsome fanged creature, that could be considered to be more dangerous than a rhino (CF-447) but less dangerous than a mammoth (CF-667). Beyond this, could you provide any information on what a Galdereen is? Maybe what planet is it found on, or less specifically, is it from UEE, Banu, or former-Tevarin space? Or at least, could you tell us its growth form? Is it sort of like a tiger, or is it more like an orca, or is it something way more strange and different?

Inquiring minds want to know! (Okay, probably just me but still.)

What is the current role of the Lore Team as it relates to Star Citizens/SQ42’s development? Are they spending time creating missions, writing stories or developing script and story lines for SQ42 and it’s sequels?

In regards to artificial gravity :
"We will probably be moving away from gravitons. Though the name sounds cool, using an actual hypothetical elementary particle is looking like it brings a lot of preconceived science baggage with it. We will probably take the suggestion of creating an entirely new element for the generator to create."
Did you ever decide on a name , and its associated lore? if so? what is it? (My suggestion is acidromalies)

The game is balanced for players for it currently to take a few minutes to go from planet to planet via QT drive.
How long in lore, does it take Pilots to fly across a Star system, on average? Like say Stanton to Microtech takes a few minutes with current balance, but the average person in lore, does it take hours, days?

In regards to artificial gravity :
"Something we saw mentioned a lot was the idea of using two plates to contain the field. This is actually something that, after talking to design, we will probably shy away from. The main reason for this is we want to be able to use the AG in open spaces if we so choose, and again, by having only one plate needed, this tech could possibly be repurposed for tractor beams. Instead we will continue with the notion that AG is interrupted by ship hulls. Though, even if the hull wasn’t interrupting, the gravplates would still have a limited range before the field would decay."
Did you ever decide on a max distance that the "open field" would reach , and if it started to disspate or it's a hard stop? (is this evidenced by the way the nomad's "bed" and landing gear work, along with Orison's gravity?)

Since Banu style slaving / indentured servitude is part of Banu culture and the Banu are allies with the UEE, does that mean that the Slaver Souli is allowed to transport product through UEE space to North Banu space (Trise system) or along the Southern UEE regions bordering Banu space?

Did you decide if tractor beam tech was a result of the research into LAG?

In regards to Artificial Gravity :

"It was also mentioned how the delay in the LAG system (combined with the unidirectional emission) would help explain why AG is impractical to use as a counter to the effects of increased Gs during flight.

Is a modification or advancement of the technology the reason we can sustain slightly higher g forces than a normal human in the 21st century, or is it more advanced suits, or another lore reason entirely?

Skyrim comes to mind when I think of fun story telling and world building, will we stumble across unusual situations in the verse (a single human skeleton, with a pencil beside them, a dog collar and 12 vanduul skeletons around it) fun 'stories' that aren't fully explained but our imaginations can fill in the gaps?

There are a number of theme areas we see popping up in lore. For example Japanese influence on Saisei, Roman themes on the major races (Xi'an, Vandul/Vandal) and modern western themes on the UEE government.

Q: Is there a consistent storyline/ overarching theme the team is working towards for the game lore or is the approach a lot more granular and on an event to event or case to case basis?

Love the Galactapedia updates btw!

Are ship hulls lined with a special material to "stop" the gravplates from emitting particles through them? if this is the case , will gravity start to "leak out" of ships eventually when hulls are damaged and / or punctured?

Does lore have any effect on vehicle balance? For example, ships that are older generation fighters from lore will always be weaker than the ships that were designed to replaced them in lore.

In a recent update on the Banu Merchantman we heard of bathroom facilities being tailored to the various races, and previously the Railen has been mentioned as having a scratch wall and a basin of sorts not for washing hands in. But we have yet to hear much about how facilities might impact the Tevarin. Are they not anatomically close enough to humans that they can share facilities with only the most minor concessions for their biology?
