This isn’t an anti-PvP post, just a perspective: How should “fair” PvP even work when… small ships have been the dominant meta for years, large ships require massive crew investment but offer less efficiency per player, players can buy into different power levels via pledges, solo players and 20-player orgs share the same battlefield, and now Engineering adds a whole new layer of targeted weakness? In PvP, players know exactly what to shoot to disable you. NPCs don’t. So ironically, the new Engineering gameplay is far more usable in PvE than in PvP, where you get deleted before you can even react. And that leads to frustration, not depth. Add to that the constant griefing, camping, and people who simply refuse to play fair… and it feels like the game is fighting itself. That’s why I still think it might be worth discussing optional PvE- or Solo/Coop-only servers, not to remove PvP, but to: reduce balance headaches, give players a space to actually use new gameplay systems, and take a lot of toxicity and stress out of the experience. I really think that would calm down the whole discussion in Spectrum as I really believe that PvP is the main "problem" of balancing... EDIT: It’s interesting how every time someone mentions optional PvE/Solo servers, the same cycle repeats: “NO.” “Go play SQ42 or ED.” “PvE would be boring.” “The community will split.” “The economy will die.” And in between all of that, nobody actually addresses the core point: SC’s systems (Engineering, large ships, multi-crew roles, balance, meta) simply function very differently depending on whether the enemy is an NPC or a player. Suggesting optional server types isn’t about removing PvP. It’s about acknowledging that not every system CIG introduces works equally well in a PvP environment. Regarding community split: We already have split experiences right now --> solo players, small groups, large orgs, meta enjoyers, casuals, hardcore PvPers. Pretending they all thrive under the exact same conditions is what actually makes balance impossible. Nobody is asking to remove PvP. Nobody is asking to force anyone into PvE. It’s simply about offering options in a game with a massive, diverse playerbase. If that threatens your experience, maybe the problem isn’t the server type.
