90% of your custommers don't want to crew. They want to be in control of their own ship. "Why do you play an MMO if you don't want to multicrew" Well, aside the game was never previously marketed as an MMORPG, even in MMORPGs you don't have multiple players trying to control the same character. And in spaceship combat, your character is your space ship: If you want to think about it in terms of RPG conventions, the character that you are leveling up and customizing is really your spaceship. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/12879-Death-Of-A-Spaceman Even though Star Citizen is turning into a conventional MMORPG, even the other space MMORPG EVE Online does not do multicrew. Flying the equivalent of a Javelin is done by a single player in EVE Online. I'm not saying they shouldn't put multicrew in the game for those that desire that. But as a requirement, it should be reserved for capital ships (and with much smaller crew complement than today). Sure there can be other crew on the ship for immersion (NPCs), but there should be no requirement that those are players. Ships smaller than capital ships should be fashioned in a way that this is possible and should also be balanced as such. E.g. a Constellation can be made more akin to a heavy fighter both in terms of offense and durability. I posted a suggestion how to make both the above possible in this thread: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/it-is-super-easy-to-balance-npc-crew-it-s-just-a-m Expecting players to fly a ship sized like a Constellation with 4 other players on a regular basis is simply. pure. and. utter. copium!
