Mk1 ships that will not receive any further updates become essentially worthless for 1.0. Backers who own these ships have given money to the project with the express promise of using their ships upon the games full release. Forcing these people to choose between either sitting on an outdated ship design, or paying more money to upgrade to Mk2 (or Mk5 or whatever it gets called) is incredibly poor form from CIG. The only correct move here is to simply give owners of the Mk1 a Mk2 for free. It's not like these are physical items that cost money to produce, just credit them to players accounts as a thanks for early support. As an absolute bare minimum the owners of a Mk1 should get a CCU to the Mk2 for free. Then they can choose which version to keep if they for some reason wish to have the old version for the sake of nostalgia. I truly do not understand why there isn't more backlash against this. Edit: For some of the defenders here stating the original ships will be updated to modern standards, I find that extremely hard to believe. Given statements like the one attached from CIG's own comm link on the Aurora Mk2 which clearly states the old ship is not suitable for the game as it exists today, hence the need for a new one, it is much more likely that the old ships are just retained as barely functional museum pieces that don't really work with the game post 1.0. So no, we did not "get what we paid for". https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/engineering/21063-Q-A-RSI-Aurora
