So I feel it's about time we as customers and backers started taking off the rose tinted glasses and addressed some of these issues. CIG is not your friend and you shouldn't want to be their friend either. Now let me clear that up, I'm not saying this to be a douche or to say that they're terrible people but rather they're a business. You shouldn't be trying to apply friendship or emotions to an entity that is attempting to convince you to spend money. Now onto the real issue here, CCU's and the now $5 cost attached to them all. So let's try and take an objective look at why this is a problem and why the reasoning behind this change is faulty. 1.) CCU's when introduced were designed so that players could move capital around freely without having to go through extra hoops and so that they could freely upgrade or side grade by just adding the additional cost of whatever they're attempting to upgrade to. They were designed in a way so that someone could sit on them for a while if they wanted to so that the person didn't have to commit to a vehicle that they may not be happy with later on. Apparently now this is a problem for the economy of the game, something that is far from actually being established and also something that will be going through several iterations later on. There are far more integral thing when it comes to a games economy than just the ships especially when at some point in the future people are going to be locked into a final ship and won't have the ability to CCU past a certain point. This is honestly a non issue. 2.) Another reason given for this change is the "exploitation" of players purchasing ships from others for a "higher price". Let's be real about this, you're still going to be able to buy the CCU's and ships aren't going to become non giftable afaik so the only thing that this stands to do is just make the "exploitation" even worse because the seller will need a higher price to even think about making a profit. 3.) Balance. Yep according to the post CIG does some kind of balancing work through looking at the ships owned by players. According to the post Zyloh made, the extra CCU's make it harder to balance because of this which in all honesty is a flimsy reason in and of itself. If you look at your own hangar you can sort by standalone ships and game packages that alone means that the devs should have the same ability and therefor don't even need to factor in CCU's to their equation. So what does this mean? In my opinion I honestly just think that CIG just saw an opportunity to make more money on a feature that is widely used by many. This only serves to hurt the consumer, CIG doesn't lose anything when they let the consumer get $0 CCU's except for of course the odd moments when a ship increases in price (which in all honesty if someone owned that ship to begin with they would have benefited anyways). The community backlash regarding the referral program contest was extremely large and most people said that was a blatant attempt at just making more money, and this in all honesty is just more of the same. It's time this kind of stuff stopped, in the long run it does more harm than it does good. EDIT: Hmmmmm now that this post is the second most upvoted thing on this page besides the New Player Experience thread I wonder if I could get a mod to pin it?
