Edit: Just to clarify a couple things I can't believe need clarification: I'm in no way attacking anyone. Thorsten is doing his job and I'm commenting on something he said. That's all. There's no malice in my message. I'm not asking for a "space repair simulator". I'm just saying there's a lot of cool stuff that could be added to repair gameplay without making players need to "read a handbook", which could be better than a simple repair beam. That's all I'm saying. Original thread: In the last SCL, @Thorsten-CIG @Savrals-CIG said: "There were plans for having more bespoke repair but that won't be part of the initial release. We will just go for the simple solution first and then we will observe how that is actually perceived by the community and if there's the necessarity to actually make it more complex or more bespoke per item, then sure we will think about that. But for now it is really a very simple repair mechanic for the items and then we will see because what we don't want to do is yoiu need to read a handbook to actually understand like.. ok what item do actually I need? what resistor do I need? like what capacitor... that doesn't make sense that we have to make people study ou game to actualy be able to play it" Ok, it's a game. It doesn't need to be something as complex as needing to study different parts to know how to repair them. But using a repair beam is exactly the other extreme imo. SC was supposed to be a game where the skill of the player is an important factor. But instead mining is (IMO) a very simple game that needs no mastering at all. You go with your mining ship, use a mining beam, play a minigame so the rock doesn't explode, take the ore and that's it. Ironically, the real important part of mining is to know what mining heads do you need, what mining modules do you need, what are the prices of each ore and where to find the right ore you want to mine. I agree having to study a handbook is not desirable, yet it happens with mining. And here's an example of what I would do to make the skill of the miner actually count: Make the player need to "aim" at parts of the rocks to destroy them in order to reach the veins of pure material, and then extra that with the extraction laser. That way the aim of the miner counts to lose or gain more materials. The same goes to repair, so instead of just aiming a repair beam at things, I don't know, just give 3 or 4 different repair tools that each repair different states and so players need to know what to use and not use the wrong tool with a burned circuit or they would make it worse. So here I am petitioning CIG to actually make the gameplay mechanics deeper. No need to avoid beams as lower tier implementations, but iterate on that to improve it and give deeper mechanics. Please!
