Since no-one on PROMETHEUS's slavery thread can seem to grasp the concept and instead latch on to the word slavery more than they discuss the actual topic.... I figured I'd re-brand it a little rather than reply to every single person that needs this explained, and so that all discussion is now on the same page. Full credit to @NAIIMA for the topic though, not your fault people are far too literal in this place. So.... Pirate Ransom Camps would operate in more or less the exact same way as prisons will. Only difference being the owning faction and the name of the "merits". You would work to earn your way out, or wait till an insurance company or whatever pays the "ransom" (just an example, but more suggestions to what this could actually be explained as are welcome), or alternatively escape. The Nine Tails pirate faction run it on one of their strongholds. Only those with high rep with the Nine Tails faction can utilise it. It fits the theme of their name, a cat of nine tails is a type of whip used to torture captives and slaves. It would not be as well kept or advanced as any of the prisons, a run down compound that barely functions. As an example to differentiate it a bit from prisons, have it set in a scrap yard and have the prisoners decrease their captive time by doing basic fps salvage rather than fps mining, using a multi-tool to chop up pieces of scrap. You could also add lore about this being the reason other pirate factions don't like the Nine Tails, thus creating a valid and believable story behind faction rivalries. Other players would have no part in the overseeing of the camp, which would either be automated or ran by npcs's, again, just like the prisons. Conditions for being captured however would be far simpler than for the criminals. As there'd be no crimestat equivalent then I'd say the simplest reason behind capture would be this: You make the choice to enter pirate controlled systems, then you are fair game... under the caveat that the area in question is controlled by a faction that has no quams holding people prisoner for ransom. Unlike the criminals who can be caught and captured anywhere in the verse as long as bounty hunter or law enforcement officer is nearby (and most likely is the one that kills them anyway)... lawful players could ONLY be caught and held "for ransom" when they enter a pirate controlled system controlled by specific pirate factions. Conditions for failing to escape would be the same as prisons, added "ransom". Upon release though I'd suggest a cooldown time to allow the player to not be instantly captured over and over. If killed upon release then they simply wake up at the last UEE landing zone they visited as if it was a normal death but with no penalty towards "death of a spaceman". Thoughts? Questions? Suggestions?... All are welcome if you can play nice. Addition: Since so many people are in denial, might as well post this here so I don't have to keep going to individual replies: Q. What happens I am captured rather than rescued? If your escape pod is captured by another player or NPC, your game will continue… but there will be penalties depending on your situation. If you are a criminal and are delivered to a prison planet, for instance, you will need to pay off the authorities to escape. If you are sold into slavery, you will need to buy your freedom. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/12879-Death-Of-A-Spaceman
