In the recent string of content, we have had: CZs Hathor Lazarus I have seen and head many complaints from the majority player base that they feel locked out of the content. Many of my affiliates and players that I normally play with have essentially given up on the content and have lost all interest in it. There is a very insightful post here from a PvP player: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/thoughts-on-recent-content-from-a-pvp-player The TDLR of the above post is that this player enjoys the CZ, Hathor, and Lazarus content based on the ability for you to "win" by locking opposing players out of the content and rewards. This one sided fun is commonly seen in other games like fighting games. Fighting games are a good example because the main point of the fighting game is to restrict the other players actions and prevent them from playing while you lock them into a endless combo loop that essentially turns the other player into a spectator that doesn't get to play. While fighting games have their niche community, most players dislike this and as a result fighting games rarely become big (SF6 is the largest fighting game right now and peaks at 20k players, which is nothing compared to team shooters and other types of PvP games that average 100,000+ users). The above post makes some really good points about CZs, in that if you kill another player you essentially locked them out because they need to go back and recollect the keycards while you progress. It becomes easy for smaller 2-3 man elite groups to completely lock down the CZ and other players that get continually killed while pushing offense (remember this game heavily favors defenders due to how choke points are designed) get essentially rolled back on progression and kicked out of the content. Unless it's Elden Ring, players really don't want to smash their faces against a brick wall for hours. It gets worse when you add in underhanded tactics like wallhacking with boxes and flat out cheating -which is prolific in Star Citizen. Hathor gets even worse because you can do all the work as a player only for some larger group, org, or streamer crew to swoop in and completely lock you out of the hole and rewards. It makes smaller groups of players, especially pick up groups, feel like the content is not even worth doing. This is considering that the average player group in star citizen is 2-3 people, not 7-10 man orgs or streaming crews. And now we have Lazarus, which is just a combination of all of the above. Where orgs are in full control of the facility and you have many 10-20 people on the server that actually get the play the content while everyone else gets farmed. It is easy to see why players are pissed off. I do think that this content has a place, but not now. Not when there is no other content to do outside of these events, which makes players feel like they are not just locked out of the patch content but locked out of the full game. Because really, if your not doing this stuff what are you doing? The same mercenary and patrol kill 10 rat missions you've been doing for months? There isn't enough general content to sustain the players that get locked out of this content. So you are essentially pouring all this time and energy into these (in my opinion, stupid) events that maybe 10 people out of the 500 player shard get to enjoy. Then you wonder why all there is so much backlash and negative feedback? This is basic math guys, its not hard to see why players are upset.
