I hesitated with making this post, but the addition of bombing, another new mechanic, has been bothering me. I'm not upset, nor am I complaining that development is taking too long. That doesn't mean that I'm okay with new features being added 5+ years into development, especially in the wake of "maybe" filled RTV's indicating that there is so much promised stuff that still has not been worked on. Should a group of employees be working on future tech? Definitely. Should said tech be tied to concepts, essentially putting them on a timer? Nope, they should not. I also fear that there will be a desire to get new mechanics into SQ42 (especially military stuff like ground bombing and tanks) further delaying it. Take for example the Endeavor. It added enough new job types to cover 3 expansions in other games. 2.5 years later, none of these jobs materialized. It's not the 2.5 years that are bothering me; it's the fact that they were offered at all. That said - The Endeavor came from a time where the project was still relatively young and CR was still making big new concepts, and I'm glad he pushed the vision forward as much as he did. Dreaming big is what is making the game materialize into the awesome product it's becoming. Alas, we are not in 2015 anymore. The game is materializing, the backers are patiently waiting and the most important features are slowly being implemented. Now is the time to complete key features and push towards beta, not add more wrinkles, especially since there is no statement indicating that these new features will be coming post-beta. What I propose in order to drive tasks forward while also generating income: Keep doing R&D behind closed doors. Sell us the ships that go with the new mechanics as they come online, but only after stagnating mechanics have been delivered. Sell new concept ships that relate to the existing job set. For instance, having only one fuel gathering ship makes no sense for such an important mechanic. Despite the controversy, sell more limited ships like the Razor variants in place of new concepts. This could reduce the amount of concept ships needed per year while still driving revenue. Sell your existing ships (a huge catalog now) more than once per year. It's silly to think that 80% of the fleet is locked to a single week of the year. That simply no longer makes sense, as if someone wants multiple ships they need to save up a lot of money beforehand. LTI is for fresh cash you say? Then double down on that and make all ships in the store have a new cash LTI option at all times, and when ships go on sale follow the same principle of adding an LTI option for cash. TL:DR - Please stop implementing new mechanics as a line needs to be drawn regarding what will be part of Beta and SQ42. Let's get this game on track while also finding new ways to fund the project.
