Poll taken from the UEX website yesterday. I think it's safe to say some players are severely overexaggerating how often pirating or "unwanted" PvP occurs. Most of the players who overexaggerate accompany their complaints with recommendations for instancing of content and protections from outside forces. I'm not denying that unwanted PvP occurs (murderhobos, griefing, etc) but it's clear it happens far less than people claim due to the vastness of the verse space in SC's game design. This isn't a new trend, either. Multiple polls taken across various platforms come to the same conclusion. It really seems the game would do perfectly fine as an open world sandbox where PvP is more accommodated and encouraged - and it wouldn't affect PvErs in the slightest. This would only serve to benefit the game with a player increase. Not only do polls come to the conclusion players rarely encounter pirates, but take a look at any streamer active on Twitch or YouTube: most go for hours and hours, even days or weeks without ever running into players while moving cargo, salvaging, mining, or doing general missions. It's clear a large portion of the game design actually funnels you away from players, and that's even prior to the location quantity increase we saw with ASD facilities such as Onyx. And before someone says it: just because you've been pirated a bit more often going Ashland, Chawla's or Jumptown, etc doesn't count. Player PvP Hotspots are popular for a reason, there's a large risk/reward effort by CIG to incentivize Player interaction and reward a player for being successful at those locations. It's not representative of everything the game provides in terms of content. Some things should meant to be fought over. There are lots of other games that are more open world, sandbox oriented that do incredibly well. PvP in general is also a very successful side of gaming, League of Legends takes in 2b revenue per year and so do other large scale PvP games such as Counter Strike or Valorant. Much of the Steam Top 10 games list is PvP oriented, and concurrent player counts favor PvP with all transparent metrics available. What are your thoughts?
