For those who don't know - In Death of a Spaceman, a person get's increasingly "fucked up" (for the lack of a better term) the more times the person is defeated in combat - They basically lose a "heart" in their pools of lives or hearts, like in PacMan. At some point, after being practically half cyborg, half scar tissue, that person's body is going to give out and the player officially dies (lost all hearts), losing reputation points and a tax is incurred on inheritance. If a player dies to an NPC, than they deserve to "lose a life (or heart)" TBH... NPC's aught to be predictable enough. But when they die to PvP, I don't think that should incur a live loss, because most of the time a PvP kill happens without a chance for a counter, because any extra-vehicular TKK is usually a fraction of a second. While I agree with the TKK, and also agree that good snipers should be rewarded for their diligence in PvP, i don't think the targets should be penalized further for not having 360 degrees angle of full environmental awareness at all times, in a game that is already disrespectful of the players time and AFK-unfriendly. It can be argued that NPC's are the same - but not really. NPC's are designed to be a fun and fair challenge. Players have no obligation of being a fun or fair challenge. Most PvP kills are going to be "cheese-kills". Good killers know their stuff. No player is obliged to be honorable, therefore the system shouldn't add salt to injury. THis is especially true for players characters that are imported from Squadron 42. The sentimental value behind such a character deserves better. While it can be argued that SC is not designed to be played solo, even if you were a member of a large organization, no army in the world can stop you from being randomly killed in a fraction of a second by someone else. It can be argued that if players can't handle the reality of what SC is to become, they shouldn't play SC. Well, the reality is, some people backed SC in their late-20's and 30's (if they are wing commander fans), and were singles or no-lifers. No problem back then, to live in a world that is completely and utterly disrespectful of one's time, and mercilessly competitive. But SC takes so utterly long to develop that some of us have gotten families and responsibilities now. Not all of us can be competitive at the PvP level, 100% present and prepared all the time ready to strike back at half a second's notice. Not all of us have the time to parley for escort when doing shipping. Then it can be argued that one shouldn't do shipping then... Well, I say the game needs to be fair to everyone that backed. If you disagree, then it's clear you believe only no-lifers should play the game. Having players not lose a life in Death of a Spaceman to PvP comes at the cost of absolutely nothing but the contempt of the disingenuous AFAIK.
