The current weapon effective ranges were most likely balanced for Star Marine, but now that we have entire worlds for FPS gameplay, the ridiculously short ranges of all handheld weapons need to be extended. To get a good idea on how close the ranges are, this is the effective range of the P8-SC (30m): Ballistic P8-SC (.45): 30m F55 (5mm): 30m P4-AR (5.56mm): 50m Scalpel Sniper Rifle (7.62mm): 120m Energy Devestator (Shotgun): 20m Custodian (SMG): 30m Demeco (LMG): 40m Gallant (Rifle): 50m Karna (Rifle): 50m Arrowhead (Sniper): 100m Compare the P4-AR (50m range), which uses 5.56mm ammunition (Assuming 5.56x45mm) 900+ years in the future, you would think future technology would at least allow the P4-AR to have the same or better effective range, but no. Here are a few 5.56mm chambered rifles effective ranges: M16: 550-800m SA80: 300-600m AK-102: 500m FAMAS G2 - 450m Now lets compare our only ballistic Sniper Rifle, the Scalpel (7.62mm), which has an effective range of 120m, to other 7.62mm rifles (assuming it is 7.62x51mm): AR-10: 600-700m M24: 800m M14: 460-800m The current ranges would turn enemies at long ranges into bullet sponges, especially when armor is involved, and would most likely make precise headshots at range pointless to even attempt. Most, if not all engagements would have to be at very close range, which is only fun if you are trying to play the game like its Call of Duty (hence the short, COD-like ranges in Star Marine). If everyone is forced to fight at close range all the time, people will be dying far more often than they would if there was a range re-balance, since fights could then be initiated at much longer ranges, allowing people to plan their engagements, rather than running around like a chicken with their head cut off at close range and probably losing one of their very few lives in an instant. If anyone at CIG is reading this, PLEASE hire a military advisor (or pretty much anyone already in the company with military experience) and allow them to oversee everything involving the small arms weapons, armor, grenades, ground combat vehicles, etc. Even something so simple as the weapon racks holding guns the wrong way is painful to see, and obvious that whoever designed it had zero knowledge when it comes to firearms. Lastly, the current way magazines are held is just painful to look at, surely we can come up with a better way than magically floating magazines that clip through most armors and other items? I was hoping this would have been solved by adding mag pouches to the most recent armors when they came online, but it was not.
