Unofficial Road to Dynamic Server Meshing Hi :wave: I am unobtanium and have been following the development of Star Citizen since 2013 and am very excited about the technology that one day will be Dynamic Server Meshing. However, back in 2020 I had trouble finding any single source of information which would provide a good overview of what Dynamic Server Meshing is about, how CIG is realizing it, why the technologies were developed in the order in which they were as well as the current development status. With programming and computer science knowledge already under my belt, I took it upon myself and started creating this presentation for everyone to check out and refer to. Since then, it has been maintained and grown over the years, whenever more information was made available to us by CIG. All the official sources that were used can be found in each topic as well as at the end of the presentation, which I always highly recommend checking out for yourself. The large majority of the available information has now made its way into the presentation, making it the great source about Dynamic Server Meshing that I was looking for. There are textual and visual explanations available for many of the involved software technologies. There has also been an effort made in introducing even the less technical-versed among us to be able to follow along by giving a not-so-short-anymore introduction. But it does give an overview of the main technical concepts and limitations that need to be overcome for software and games in general. Even though there was a great effort made to use the many official information and sources, be aware that some aspects of how these technologies work are still deduced, sometimes even speculated in which case I made sure it was noted as such. In the light of new insights, the information in this presentation will be updated accordingly. Feel free to report back to me in case you found something that can be improved or that I have missed. In general, if something needs to be elaborated, seems to be unclear, badly worded, grammatically or outright technically incorrect, I would like to know. Since some of the stuff is still speculated, I would appreciate feedback and other viewpoints and information from the community to help improve this overview.
