I ran a full salvage operation with a Reclaimer, Carrack and RAFT over the course of eight hours. Two ships salvaged, everything boxed, hauled, refined – and in the end, nothing can be sold and the refinery payout takes two and a half real life days. Here is the full breakdown and outcome: Salvage Phase Start 13:30 Targets Hammerhead Starlifter Actual salvage time about one and a half hours total Resulting materials 42 SCU RMC 447 SCU CMS raw All boxed and moved manually Transport and Refining Two trips to the refinery First trip 343 SCU CMS with the Carrack Second trip 104 SCU CMS with the RAFT 13 crates Neither the Carrack nor the RAFT can be automatically unloaded at the refinery, not when stored and not when standing freely in the hangar. Everything has to be offloaded manually. Refinery Dinyx Solventation 343 SCU resulted in 51.45 SCU refined CMS 104 SCU resulted in 15.60 SCU refined CMS Total refined 67.05 SCU CMS 42 SCU RMC were not accepted by the refinery The most unacceptable part is that the refinery wait time is over two and a half real life days before you get the payout. Selling Attempts Failed New Babbage TDD terminal area 42 SCU RMC delivered and unloaded manually Material detected and priced No selling option available Lorville CBD TDD Inventory is shown Price visible Selling is not possible, the sell button is missing As a result all 42 SCU RMC are still unsold because of the terminal bug End of Operation Return to New Babbage Manual unloading End time around 21:30 Total duration eight hours About one and a half hours salvaging The remaining time was transport, unloading, refining and failed attempts to sell Costs Mission fees 20000 aUEC Refinery fees 3574 aUEC Fuel Reclaimer Carrack RAFT and return 14700 aUEC Total costs 38274 aUEC Theoretical Earnings nothing sold yet Based on current average prices Refined CMS 67.05 SCU times 3000 aUEC equals 201150 aUEC RMC 42 SCU times 4250 aUEC equals 178500 aUEC Total value 379650 aUEC Profit after costs 341376 aUEC theoretical only because nothing can be sold Profit per hour Over full eight hours 42672 aUEC per hour If optimized to six hours 56896 aUEC per hour For comparison in eight hours of hauling you can easily make ten million. This is not even remotely competitive. Final Critique It is clear that salvage is intended to support the future crafting and resource economy. But until that system is complete you cannot reduce prices, break unloading, introduce selling bugs, force full manual logistics and then add a sixty hour payout delay on top of it. This removes any sense of reward and frustrates players. If CIG wants to bridge the gap until crafting is implemented they should adjust prices so the time reward balance equals previous patches, fix unloading and selling bugs immediately and reduce refinery wait time to a reasonable level. Right now the system is demotivating and unrewarding, and I am far from the only one who feels this way.
