I've been thinking about this for a long time. I can't speak for everyone, so this is just my personal opinion, but I really don't like the direction the game's development is taking. For years, both the developers and Chris Roberts talked about Star Citizen as an immersive space sim and a sandbox experience set in a living, breathing universe with dynamic events. What we're getting is the exact opposite, and with every patch there are less and less sandbox activities, while the game looks more and more like Space WoW with extra tediousness. Game was way more sandbox several patches ago when people were hauling their own cargo which pirates could steal and sell, abandoned ships could be salvaged and scavenged for parts, people were smuggling drugs for big profits which lead to creation of hotzones like Brio, Jump town was a thing where it sometimes was absolute chaos other time people were peacefully standing in line and an org took care of security, receiving donations from players in return. But where is it all now? Gone... Instead we got these new missions which are heavily scripted with linear story. They're fun the first few times, but eventually they become repetitive because they're always exactly the same. The enemy spawns never change, the objectives never change and there is no randomness, surprise, or dynamic element. You go to the same location and encounter the same scenario every single time. That's not a living universe, sandbox, or simulation. It's basically a WoW dungeon in space. And these missions have an impact on locations. Without an active mission, many of places feel dead. A living universe should work the other way around. Locations should exist because they have a purpose, history, and people living there. They should feel "alive" whether or not a player has a mission. Once that is done, mission designers should build activities around it, daily tasks, dynamic events, and emergent gameplay. And if these places are interesting, players will create their own activities there (if we just get proper tools) - that's what a sandbox is. Give us sand, give us tools, and let us shape it as we want. Stop putting us in a "sandbox" where all the castles are already built and you're telling us how we're supposed to play with them. So again CIG, where is this space sim and this immersive living universe and sandbox experience you constantly talk about? I cant see it, all I see is Space WoW with dungeons, fantasy armors with capes and bones, empty settlements with eternal fires, arcady combat and many more thing that doesnt belong in space sim at all. Please make a meeting and decide what game you actually want to create and make sure that every member of team, including management, knows what game you are making and than please tell us trully what this game is supposed to be.
