Now that CIG is taking ship roles more seriously and putting in engineering so that multi-crew ships need to better manage their resources, I wonder when we may see equivalent attention paid towards fighters? Right now fighter ships can do it at all - they can kill everything in the game, they are the most agile ships, and they also have enough fuel to travel multiple systems without needing the assistance of any logistics or support ships. But why is it this way? Fighters already have too many advantages. IMO CIG should make it so fighters don't have the fuel to even travel between planetary systems in the same star system in one go. I recall years ago jumping from say ArcCorp to Microtech may require a fighter pilot to make 2-3 pitstops along the way to fuel back up. This was perfect. However, it was changed at some point to appease the light fighter crowd that throws a tantrum anytime things don't go their way (see master modes) Fighters are already the best at so much. They should require logistics to bring into a fight instead of simply being able to QT to wherever they need to go on their fuel tanks that rival several multi-crew ships. They shouldn't be able to show up on a fight on their own. They should need to be brought in on another large ship and launched from it given how dominant their role is in combat. IMO they should be seen as only a little better than snub fighters (which lack QT altogether). The QT on fighter ships should be enough for hopping between moons. Inter-planetary travel should require multiple pitstops or support ships It is time to make fuel limitations a serious thing for fighters. If CIG is serious about ships adhering to defined roles, it makes ZERO sense why fighters still have the fuel ranges that they do.
