After years of hearing the arguments, I think what it really boils down to is that a lot of single-seat fighter pilots hate the idea that another solo player can be virtually untouchable by them. They have become accustomed to being the universal apex predator. They can choose most engagements, escape when things go badly, and threaten ships far outside their own weight class. The moment another solo player shows up in something they cannot realistically kill, suddenly pilot-controlled weapons and “solo balance” become a crisis. The fact remains that a capital ship should not be realistically killable by one ordinary fighter. It should take specialized weapons, comparable force, or an organized group capable of exploiting its weaknesses. A solo capital ship is already severely limited. Once smaller ships close the distance, many of its large weapons become useless, while missing crew leaves gaps in engineering, repairs, turret coverage, awareness, and damage control. Yet somehow the conversation always circles back to pilot-controlled guns, as though the capital pilot should be helpless simply because he is alone. A solo capital should be less effective than a properly crewed one. It should not be free prey for every fighter pilot who believes one player must always equal one player. Get over it.
