I know the Squadron 42 delay is what everyone will talk about, but that’s not the part that bothers me most. Apparently Star Citizen was not on a skeleton crew. Resources have been split roughly 50/50. I don’t know how everyone else reads that, but it isn’t as reassuring as I think Chris thinks it is. It's kinda similar to the SCL “local/internal server” video fiasco. If you assume most of the pain is server-side, the current state is easier to accept. That last livestream made that assumption a lot harder. For years the common assumption was that SC's progress was so slow and so buggy because almost everything was going to SQ42. If that’s not true — if this is what half the studio can deliver — then I struggle to understand why basic things still take so long to be delivered: social tools, usable UI, elevators that actually work, and other long-broken features. Like... we're not talking "groundbreaking tech" here. Like Genesis etc... We're talking about BASIC features. Like trading tools, guilds, party systems, and a more robust reputation system for PVP... Basic, much smaller dev teams on much smaller budgets have managed to do this in other games. With 50% or 45% of manpower, you can't give us good UI, a good starmap, a working elevator, and a basic guild system? Really? I find this VERY difficult to comprehend. That doesn’t give me much confidence in what happens after SQ42 ships and SC supposedly gets most of the resources back. After a billion dollars of funding, this is what half of your "power" looks like? That’s a hard pill to swallow. I don't know, maybe it's just me... But... that didn't have the "reassuring" vibe I think Chris expected to deliver with this statement. I can understand the state of the game being what it is if the split was 10/90. But 50/50? Or even 45/55? Yikes. That just tells me that more devs aren't going to fix much. So what's the plan? Keep selling ships and see if we get half what we were promised in 10 years? Edit: I'm not a game dev, so I'm not going to pretend that I know what 50% should or should not deliver. But this is... very difficult to comprehend how, despite SC getting decent resources, progress is still so slow. I just don't get it.
