There is an age old lesson that starts with owning a bar. One day, a miscreant enters your bar. While every instinct is telling you that you should kick this person out, you end up serving them anyway. They mildly annoy your other customers but you just ignore it and go about your business. Over the course of a few months, the miscreant tells all their friends how awesome your bar is. It's awesome because this person normally gets kicked out of any other decent bar that has moral standards, so your bar becomes a haven. More and more people like this customer start coming in every day. They drive out the normal customers you have and before you know it, the entire climate and culture of your bar has shifted into the negative. There are other games out there, like GTA, Rust, Scum, etc. Games that were intentionally designed to appeal to the people with low moral standards. Games that had an intentional design goal to create a brutal world of no rules and gang law where "git gud" is the standard. Games where exploitative behavior is not just tolerated, but promoted. These games are all the same. No rules, no regulation, anything goes, and "git gud" is law. The communities centered around these games develop a high level of toxicity due to these very intentional design choices that are meant to breed conflict and unfairness. The vision of Chris Roberts pitched to us during the kick starter was not this kind of game. We did not sign up for a DayZ, a Starkov, Rust in Space, or Galactic Theft Auto. However, there were people from these other games that came over to try Star Citizen and what did they find? No rules and a broken law system that offers no player equalization or protection. Hundreds upon hundreds of exploits like box clipping that can be used to break into ships and glitch into loot hangars to steal from other players. A completely unmoderated global chat with almost no bans of player infractions enforced so they can say whatever political or racist idea they have right in the open with no repercussions. Almost all the the content is PvP and/or PvP enabled, allowing players to be third wheeled and preyed on under every circumstance. FPS maps designed with single choke points that allow players to be easily camped and dominated. For these people playing these other games, Star Citizen is literally a paradise. So they came over here, they brought their friends, they planted their flags in the ground, and they setup their "Piracy Orgs" (and what I mean by this is they aren't actually interested in taking your stuff or negotiating like legitimate pirates, they just want to kill, dominate, and disrupt your session) like GrieferNet. Now you have hundreds of these types of players. They pollute global chat with their vitriol. They invent new Star Citizen specific terms for what used to be normal customers like "Space Dads" and "Bobs." They downvote and slam every opposition thread in spectrum with poop emojis, and picard facepalms instead of invoking meaningful conversation. CiG you opened the door. You let them in. You created the perfect breeding ground for these kind of players. And as a result of this, your most dedicated backers that once believed in the dream of the game that Chris Roberts originally pitched are sitting here and taking it. EDIT: Removed this last line, too threatening does not help the point. EDIT 2: The language was softened due to the sensitivity of the topic.
