I see this all the time. I feel like it's beaten to death, but I need to properly explain in a visible way why it will never happen. Star Citizen is not your typical MMO. It differs from others in many significant ways, but crucial difference is relevant to this conversation. In other MMOs, PVP comes in many forms. There's griefing, territory disputes, piracy, consensual duels, and isolated PVP modes. I think most of the discussion on PVP here will be griefing, territory disputes, and piracy (as I don't think anyone's asking for Arena Commander to exclude PVP modes) Typical MMOs have PVP and PVE content clearly separated. If you want to go do a raid, you can go do PVE around enemies that tend to be designed to be fought many-to-one. The enemies tend to be based on mechanics rather than AI skill, and have a boat-load of health, and it's mechanics against your own skill. In games like Conan Exiles or souls-like games, the enemies have mechanics, and some of them are much like yourself in abilities, but tend to be lower in skill and higher in stats. They might knock out your health in 3 hits but it takes 30 for you to kill them. This is pretty common PVE balance. In Star Citizen you have to toss away everything you know about PVE combat. Enemies aren't bullet sponges that will knock you out real fast. If you and they are both in fighters, you will have similar stats based on ships and equipment, and the best skill will win on a level playing field. Unlike other MMOs, this mirrors PVE exactly. Similar stats, best skill wins. The bulk of the argument comes down to this: If Star Citizen accomplishes what they set out to do, PVE and PVP will be nearly indistinguishable. Say you're hanging out in a lawless area. You run a risk of being attacked. Period. It might be NPCs. It might be Players. It doesn't matter, because the risk either way should be proportional to the risk of the area you're in. If you're in a Freelancer with a single NPC crewmate, and get attacked by a Cutlass and a Bucc, what does it matter to you if this is an NPC or a player? You're getting attacked. The type of combat you engage in and the way you respond is the same. You might try to get away, or disable their ships. If you get killed and looted, what does it matter if it was an NPC or a Player that did it to you? The intention is for a 10/90% split between players and NPCs in the verse. Most of the time it'll be NPCs. Sometimes it'll be high skill NPCs. Sometimes it'll be low skill NPCs. Sometimes it'll be high-skill players. Sometimes it'll be low-skill players. What you do in response is no different. Why does it matter to you? People that "just want to be left alone" don't understand this game. If you want to be left alone, you'll be happy either way in safe zones, and you'll be upset either way in lawless zones. How and where you play dictates what your experience will be, not whether or not players shooting at you are capable of doing damage. EDIT: go vote on this question to see what CIG have to say about it. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/q-amp-a-server-meshing-and-persistent-streaming/4483473
