The discussion about "exploration gameplay" and "Not enough Non-combat" has done the rounds at this point. But even if you are someone that loves combat. Please have higher standards and see how stormbreaker is the antithesis of what combat content in SC should look like. Stombreaker, actively neuters everything that makes Star Citizen different from other games. There are so many ways Stormbreaker could offer a unique experience that you would find in NO other game, but in Star Citizen. But the devs of this game? They actively go out of their way to make sure that all of these aspects that make SC unique... are removed. (Some of it is due to tech limitations, but honestly... most of it are bad decisions.). Let me give you a few examples: - Dropships - Stormbreaker is a big missed opportunity for dropships. CIG could have given all dropships a higher distortion damage resistance. Meaning that they could stay in the storm just long enough to drop the troops and fly out. This would have made dropships instantly useful. I'm not a game designer, but please explain to me how this is not a good idea to make these useless ships useful for their intended role. CIG's game design choice: The magic immune bus. (Creating a choke point problem that could easily be avoided if we used dropships instead. Something that was already an issue in Siege of Orison, by the way. But CIG never learns.) - Land vehicles - Back in the 2016 demo (which introduces the Valakkar ironically), we were shown why land vehicles would be useful in the future: Storms. This was the perfect opportunity to finally make them shine and fulfill that original vision. CIG's game design choice: The magic immune bus. - Medical ship and vehicles - We have specialized vehicles right now that can be used as mobile and destructible spawn points. This is great for something like Stormbreaker, because you avoid spawn camping by keeping the spawn point mobile (keep a pilot or driver to keep it moving at all times), but also... taking down such a vehicle to hinder the enemy is a viable tactical solution. CIG's game design choice: create a static medical bed area. And act surprised when spawn camping happens. (something anyone with a basic understanding of PvP would have predicted). - The Valakaar - Look. The Valakaar looks and sounds great. No complaints there. But I expected this mighty creature to be something any player could encounter in the wild. Like, how cool would it be if you were just minding your business ground mining on Daymaar, and then you hear a roaming sound behind you? You turn around, and you see this massive column of sand moving straight in your direction. Giving you only a few moments to get out of the area. CIG's game design choice: a static, spawnable boss that doesn't even move around. It just dances around and pukes at you. (This one, I will cut them some slack, because they probably want that, but it may require some tech or something. But for the other three points? There is no excuse.) I'm sure I could find more examples, but you get the point. Stormbreaker effectively neuters all of Star Citizen's strengths. And for what? You are left with all the games weaknesses on full display for no real benefit. Star Citizen will never have the satisfying shooting experience of a Bungie game. (It's not bad, just to be clear. But it's not so good that it's a selling point for the game). It will never have the satisfying "combined arms" design of Hell Let Loose. It will never have the balance and moment-to-moment greatness of old Battlefield games. But what CIG does have... is a sandbox world of unparalleled scale with a lot of cool toys to use (ships and vehicles). So, why... is the content team trying so HARD to remove all of these aspects that should make this game unique... for a watered-down, clunky version of game modes from other, more successful games? (Any game that just tries to trend chase other more successful games without a special sauce to make it stand out has FAILED... CIG. You do have a special sauce, so why do you try to effectively remove it?) If there is any reason to say "Sar Citizen is going in the wrong direction". This is it. Even if you love combat or even PvP, please ask yourself if this is what the future of combat content is to look like. Because honestly, if you want this sort of experience? You can find them elsewhere. Better and for cheaper. To the content team: Please... stop trying to neuter the strengths of the game instead of using them. You will never be able to provide an experience as good as the other games you are clearly trying to emulate in Star Citizen. You can, however, inspire yourself from these games to make content that plays on Star Citizens unique strengths (And yes, I'm talking about strengths that already exist today. Not things that require future tech.) Stormbreaker is a perfect example of "content" that shows everyone that you may actually not understand your own game. And that, worries me. Greatly!
