The fact that you took an extra week just to make sure you would formulate a proper announcement to what is arguably terrible news for the backer, only to essentially point your finger at them. "Politely" scold them and blame them for the entire situation... speaks volumes of the tone deafness of your PR department. Blaming your fanbase for your own flaws is NEVER a good idea. Even if you are right, attacking your fans.... Who are your MAIN reason of existing.... is NOT a good idea. As bad as the temporary removal of features and the changes to the release view are... the ever increasing divide between the community and CIG is what's most alarming here. If anything can kill this entire project, it's CIG turning their backers against them. You're playing a very dangerous game here. I understand the logic of CIG's decision to reduce the importance of the release view to mitigate inflammatory reactions. But the way they justified this decision is frankly alarming. Let's be clear. We didn't announce SQ42 to be released in 2016, 2017, 2020... Only to go radio silent when the mark was missed every time. CIG did. We didn't ask the Reclaimer and SF back in 2018 to be flyable without gameplay and sold with the roadmap stating that their respective gameplay features would arrive shortly after (Just 6 months away, and only getting SOME of this stuff... FOUR YEARS later.). CIG did. We didn't ask CIG to keep creating useless ships nobody asked for (The cutlass steel, Rock DS) to sell. CIG did. We didn't ask CIG to use EVERY opportunity to make us spend more (Luminaria and the JPEG to advertise for a futur vehicle sale). CIG did. We didn't ask CIG to create ships that might go against their desired combat ecosystem, but do it anyways because marketing says it will sell for a lot (The Ares). CIG did. We didn't ask CIG to funnel more and more content that could be used as cool rewards in the PU (armors, skins) to their subscriber reward system and pledge store. Reducing the potential for good progression in favor of increased revenue for the company. CIG did. Is it any wonder that after 10 years of increasing aggressive marketing tactics, poor or lack of communication, deadlines not being met, that community is under a constant cloud of frustration? Yet, you took a full week and decided that blaming that very frustrated community for all these issues with the roadmap, was the right call? Yes, the community are no angels. Yes, I get that spectrum is a salty Echo chamber most of the time (with reason mind you, although some formulate their frustration poorly). Yes I understand that dealing with that much salt is not a pleasant experience. But maybe. Just maybe, you should take SOME accountability for your own mistakes instead of scolding your own community, who.... Despite the salt on spectrum... has financially supported you for almost 10 years without a finished product in their hands (and now no clear view of when we actually will get a finished product. Be it SC or SQ42). So maybe, just maybe. Use that extra week to eat some humble pie, and descend back into orbit to get back to reality, before you blame the ones that are figuratively your very reason of existing as a company without a finished product in sight after 10 years. As you seem to be under the false impression that increased revenue = Backers satisfaction. See how well that turned out for any corporation that suddenly antagonized their own fanbase with the assumption that they'll stick around anyways. Spoilers: It never ended well for them! Food for thought, I sure hope you learn from this mistake (but I doubt you will, since that's the core of the issue).
