To get started I know the plan is to have everyone on one server. This is never going to be a thing howeever. Right now we have 4 regional servers. 5 million citizens are on 50,000 shards. We don't play together now. Even with server meshing at best we might see 20,000 on a shard. ( industry average is 4,500, even Blizard can't get past 7,500 ) in the future we won't see everyone on a single server. So best case scenario is 250 server meshed clusters. Obviously everyone doesn't play at the same time so let's call it 50 servers. We are never all going to fit on a single server. It's not possible. Why not have 20 pve servers and 30 pvp servers and adjust as needed? Then if you like pvp you go on a pvp server. If you like pve go on a pve server. If you like both then get 2 accounts. When even in a perfect world we have 50 servers with 5 million citizens split between them why can't some of them be pve ? And I'm being generous here. 5.5mm is the population now that could easily get to 20 million citizens or 200 servers / realms minimum. Having pvp only servers excludes a large number of people who could back and help fund the game. The more funding we get the better the game is going to be for everyone. In addition this game is planned to have private servers. The only real downside is a module on the pve code base that removes player to player collisions and player to player damage. You can still have the same code base on both and just have the module disabled / commented out out on the pvp servers. Note :- It would need a guard rail. Pve players should not be able to join a pvp server because they would have acquired materials and ships much faster / easier - unless pvp servers have higher pay outs
