So in the latest SC Live (Today), the devs said that the M-80 is going to be competing against the Scorpius. An obvious question was asked during the live (And I respect Jared for asking the question)... If the M-80 (a solo ship) can compete with the Scorpius (a two-player multicrew ship). How do you balance the M-80 and not make it overpowered? The answer from the dev: He doesn't know how Multicrew is a downside. It's just different, and it's cool that you can either use the M-80 solo or use the Scorpius to do the same with two players. (Not quoting him, but that's more or less what he said.) See.... This mindset... this... right there. This is why Multicrew is underwhelming. Now, I know that some will think I'm overreacting to a single comment here, but please. There is an actual trend here (The mole at its release, the Roc DS, the Anthares... All point towards that very mindset when it comes to multicrew). This is why it will continue to be underwhelming. I understand that balancing multicrew is not an easy task. But unless this ridiculous "It's cool to do it with friends and that's enough" mentality changes? Multicrew will never... ever... be able to compete with solo ships. You just recently ADMITTED. Multicrewing a ship is so tedious. It's so time-consuming. That you are now considering teleportation. So you KNOW... That multicrewing as a requirement, at this moment, it is in fact... a downside. Because it takes time and effort for NO payoff. Literally. Even the mission payout and rep will be less if you play with two players instead of going solo. So why take the Scorpius when you can use the M-80 and get the FULL pay yourself? (See the problem here?) And yet... You still think that multicrewing should not bring ANY advantages whatsoever. Is the way to go. How? I'm sorry, but I have no faith that we will ever get satisfying multicrew when this is the vision for Multicrew. And you KNOW this is a problem. Because you eventually caved for the mole and gave it an advantage over the prospector. So when it comes to the mole. You saw that making "it's cooler with friends" didn't work out and changed it. Yet, you still apply the "it's cooler with friends" mindset to all other multicrew ships. Why? C.I.G. Please! This mindset with multicrew... NEEDS to change. It's one of your BIGGEST advantages against possible competition, and you are barely trying to make it relevant. Multicrew needs to have a point. It cannot boil down to "It's fun to do it with friends." Edit: To be clear, I'm not saying that a bigger ship has to make a smaller ship obsolete or whatever. That's not my point. My point is, a multicrew ship has to bring something to the table that sets it apart from the solo variant (besides the social aspect). Otherwise, there is no point to them. The Mole vs Prospector is a good example. A prospector overall still can do what a mole can without a multicrew requirement. But the mole offers a buff that allows it to crack SOME rocks that a prospector can't (But ONLY, if it's mulicrewed, not if you solo it). That's how Multicrew should be. IT doesn't negate the prospector, but it brings something different that makes it relevant. I agree, solo ships... SHOULD be competitive and have their place. And not just be replaced by bigger variants. But Multicrew ships have an identity crisis. And they deserve to be relevant too (And for the most part? They are not.)
