I am hearing a lot of complaints about people running around solo in their Idris's and how this supposedly ruins the game dynamics for those who don't own an Idris. But I think many are missing the true root of the problem. There is a REASON people are running around solo in their Idris's, and it isn't specific to the Idris. Think about it. Before the Idris even released; how many multicrew ships that you encounter in the verse are EVER operated by more than one person? Ninety nine percent of all the player operated Connie's, Starlancer's, Hammerhead's, 600I's, 400I's, Corsair's, that you see in the PU are piloted by a solo pilot and always have been. Why? Because requiring PLAYER multicrew for these ships is logistically unrealistic and not feasible. The vast majority of the player base don't have enough active friends to crew any of these ships on a consistent basis, and doing so with more than one or two people is a pain in the butt and an unenjoyable experience overall. Hardline requiring player multicrew will NEVER be feasible, and will never work as a primary means for operating these ships. How many of you have 10 people that play Star Citizen, who are willing to drop everything and be at your beck and call to crew your Polaris on any given day? Realistically, for the vast majority of the player base, this is simply not possible and never will be possible. Taking the stance of: "Well if you aren't an extrovert with hundreds of friends, you shouldn't have gotten that Polaris"... isn't a reasonable stance. This mentality alienates 80-90 percent of the player population and creates a reality where most players will forever be locked into single seat fighters and starter ships, with no meaningful progression. How long do you think those people will stick around? Folks, we are not thinking realistically about this issue. If we don't change our thinking on multicrew gameplay, its dead before it even begins. Multicrew MUST be balanced around NPC crew, with player crew as an OPTIONAL inclusion. It is the only thing that will logistically work long term. Relegating the Polaris, Idris, and any of the large ships (which make up the majority of sold ships at this point) to "big org special occasions" is going to ruin multicrew gameplay. There is a reason you don't see anyone flying Hammerheads and other multicrew combat ships anymore, folks. The only reason you see Idris's is because of the pilot controlled guns. If this issue is hard forced on players, before long, all multicrew ships will be relegated to nothing but hangar decorations that nobody ever bothers to fly, because they are subpar in pretty much every way (even with a crew). The population will get bored and move away from the game because of lack of meaningful progression (which CIG has said is going to be based on ships and items). We need to rethink our stances on this.
