Who are these "Roadmap watchers''? I do no believe that out of millions of accounts who have bought into Star Citizen, that there is a sufficient enough of a presence within the community who make so much "noise" about projections being promises that developers, prospective fans and the rest of the community are distracted. The roadmap is for the entire community to watch the progress on the project that they helped fund. How that statement reads to me is that CIG is implicating anyone who brings up their concerns or gives feedback when things move or change on the roadmap, is one of these “Roadmap watchers who see projections as promises" and are "distracting" others. It's not stated where these concerns are being brought up either. So far it’s assumed it's on platforms CIG owns, but it could be anywhere as it's mentioned to happen "within our community". This could be your own VOIP servers or forums on your own org website. And the phrase "as well as to prospective Star Citizen fans watching from the sidelines" can be interpreted to be talking about discussions on social media, as most "prospective Star Citizen fans watching from the sidelines" wouldn't be sitting in Spectrum reading these forums if they're still on the sidelines. A significant portion of backers only consume their SC content from social media platforms and avoid Spectrum like the plague. Let me be crystal clear We, in this community, are in no way shape or form, responsible in any way, for CIG shifting deliverables We do not plan out the features that the developers will work on for any of your development cycles We do not know the inner workings of what is going on in your studios beyond what you expose to us We are not responsible for delivering on the product you have sold to all of us in this community We do not control what feedback and issues CIG chooses to listen to and what they choose to ignore That is all on you CIG. I pledged money to help build Star Citizen not only because the game that is being built is the one I want to play, but also because I saw a project and a visionary who had the courage to take the risk no one else would. The quote from the Roadmap above isn’t something that I would expect anyone who is working on a project that requires courage would say. Failing to be honest with their intentions on what they can deliver Failing to learn from your mistakes and implementing solutions to improve on your estimates for deliverables Failing to remain focused on what you're aiming to deliver I was a software developer. I know what it’s like to try to project forward and plan out the work I was assigned to do. I know what it's like to have outsiders looking at what I was developing and providing "feedback". I know what it's like to have the goal posts shifted mid way through a feature I was developing. I know what it’s like to miss the deadlines that I had set for myself, then having to answer to my bosses for my failings. But I never, ever blamed anyone else for when I failed to meet my deadlines. I owned my failings and worked to improve myself. Up until the release of the last roadmap update, I thought that’s how CIG operated too, owning failure and working to improve. It was why the length of time for the project's development didn't bother me. Maybe it’s still true to a certain degree, but statements like the one in that Roadmap update seriously bring doubt forward on CIG’s capacity on owning their failures. I cannot walk past that statement from the Roadmap update and accept anyone from CIG speaking to anyone in this community like that in any way, shape or form. And no one else should either. CIG leadership, you owe your community an apology. And I personally (and most likely a larger section of this community) would like to see a reaffirmation from @croberts68 on The Pledge - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/the-pledge because it sure as hell seems like you guys over there need a reminder of what you pledged to the community.
