Today's ISC was a disaster, but not in the way CIG is going to think. Today we learned that, when you take away the server jank of the PU, the game is still a hot mess. They've been able to make us believe that the PU's issues are because servers are stressed (or some other networking-related issue) and once the network tech matures, the game will be great. Then they showed us the PU in a 30fps private server. It was terrible. CIG will absorb all the negative reaction and conclude it was a mistake to be so open and honest with us by (accidentally) revealing the true state of things. But that completely misses the problem. The problem is, after 14 years and $1 billion, they can't even do basic FPS well in an offline environment. Studios with 1/100th the budget, 1/20th the team, and 1/5th the time have produced incredible online FPS games 10x the quality of that crap we saw today. And FPS is a major component of Squadron 42. This is supposed to be their bread and butter content. The red flags are flashing so very brightly to us backers over the state of the game and the ability of this company to realize their vision within the next 14 years, but CIG will see a live gameplay ISC as a major mistake and become less transparent, less honest, and decisions will be even more driven by demands of the marketing team going forward. It will be completely beyond them why today is making everyone so terrified for the future of the game we love and are rooting for. This bodes very poorly for the future of both the PU and SQ42. I hope they prove us wrong, but I doubt it even more now.
