Let’s get a thread going so CIG can see the other side of the pirates and griefers debate. I was promised a game where I could enjoy playing solo with an NPC crew (and maybe a couple of friends ) and use a PvE/PvP slider to avoid dealing with pirates and griefers. Instead, I’m stuck in a system where these pirates and griefers have nothing to lose—they can just die, respawn, grab a new ship in under two minutes, and come right back to finish the job. Most of the time, they don’t even bother getting dressed after their first death! They just return, stealing everything I’ve spent hours working to collect. You can’t have a sim game where some players invest hours meticulously setting up their ships, loading resources, and preparing for missions, only to be ambushed by pirates or griefers who face no setup time. They encounter no real consequences and can respawn in minutes, grabbing another fighter and rejoining the fight until they eventually win by sheer persistence. It’s infuriating and feels like a complete joke. And now, with the talk about the new master mode? Pirates and griefers still have weapons, while players trying to escape are left without shields. What sense does that make? How is it fair that the person fleeing doesn’t even get navigation speed to pull away effectively? It’s absolutely ridiculous. To make matters worse, the game does boast incredible immersion—ships with fully functioning bathrooms, beds, and rooms to hang out in during long missions. But let’s be honest: how can there be long missions when a jump only takes three minutes? That’s not even enough time to run to the space bathroom and back! These features should support players who want to live the simulated experience, taking the time to prepare, strategize, and enjoy the journey. But what’s the point of these details if you’re just going to lose hours of progress to someone who doesn’t care about immersion? The lack of meaningful penalties for pirates and griefers, combined with unbalanced mechanics, makes it impossible to fully immerse in what should be a rich sim experience. All those thoughtful features, like being able to rest in your quarters or interact with your ship’s facilities, feel pointless when the game prioritizes relentless PvP chaos over rewarding skill, preparation, or roleplaying. If this is how the game is going to operate, it will punish the very players who genuinely want to enjoy the universe CIG has worked so hard to create.
