I haven't played Elite Dangerous in years, mind you.. But that doesn't mean they didn't have good immersive game design in some area's. 1) Unique sounds for engines. Every ship has its own "sound" it's own personality to its engines. Sometimes the thrusters sound the same, but the creaks, groans, and stress sound different as its pitching higher or lower in power. Sometimes and usually its just completely different beast from any other ship. Sounds for ships are getting more and more... "cheap" Hell, right now engine sounds for your own ship practically don't even register for that player... I notice the most with this when playing with friends.. Having them fly over, fly near me, or on a pad landed, their ships sound 9x louder than my own to me, and they experience the same thing.. Note: This would probably be "unique sounds for each type of engine/thrusters". Rather than the ship themselves. Since the components are what matters. Switching out engine types would change the sound of the ship. 2) Landing pad elevators.. This is the coolest and most iconic part of Elite Dangerous, and... it just makes flipping sense.... Have ships land on a pad, and that pad retract into the ground... Not only does this look really sweet from a players perspective, it allows you to add multiple landing zones on a single landing pad for massive cities. Imagine, Area 18. You land on a landing pad, and it retracts immediately. You go down, and you see other ships, and other landing pads, as you go down 3 levels, turn 60 degree's, and slide backwards into your "hangar". The current "crater" like landing pads can still exist for certain area's, like asteroid bases, Levski style bases, and Grim Hex like area's... but I should not be forced to try to fit a large cumbersome ship of all things into a crater like landing area that's only 1% bigger than my actual ship...
