Hello there, it's me! Your favorite purveyor of unpopular opinions. Ready for today's hot take? I know you aren't, but here it is. CR will never obtain the flight/combat feel he wants for this game until he removes decoupled mode. All the flight model changes, weapon range reduction, targeting mode changes, all of it will fail to give us the battles in the style of Star Wars, also known as 'WWII in space' as long as decoupled mode exists. That's right, sharpen the pitchforks and light the tires. Alright, here is my reasonings, feel free to hate away. The very design of the ships, with mostly or exclusively forward facing weaponry tells me that your ships orientation was always supposed to be a major factor during combat. However, with decoupled mode, it's a complete non-issue. There is no reason to not always be facing directly at your target. If you aren't, you are a fool, and probably a dead one. Currently, all PvP ship combat boils down to is who has the higher relative DPS. How can it not, when both players can have 100% time on target? I know all the counter arguments. Yes it would make it feel less like a space game. Yes it would drastically change racing. Yes it's forced and gamey. Etc. I'm not even saying I personally want decoupled to go away. All I'm saying is that once you remove decoupled, only then does your orientation matter, only then does skill start to affect time on target, only then do fancy maneuvers start to actually be worth learning, only then does the design of the ships make sense within the universe. I think it would be worth the time to try disabling it for a patch or two, see how it plays out in practice. Maybe I'm wrong, it's theoretically possible even if it's statistically unlikely. It would be the single largest change to the combat meta in the history of the game. The effects would be more pronounced and much more controversial on the forums than even IM or AG. I think it's worth trying it out. Please give it some thought Chris, if you haven't already tried this internally. @croberts68 (Even though you probably put me on ignore long ago, and it's not worth your time to read my drivel. :stuck_out_tongue: ) Alright ladies and gents, feel free to lynch me now. I've said my piece. I'm off to play some MHW. :t-rex:
