You should be able to repair components that are affected by wear and tear. With the multitool or by repairing at one of the stations or cities. Engineering shouldn't become the main goal of this game. If CIG goes through with this, people will be grinding money just to replace components every 5 sec whether through destruction or wear and tear. I honestly don't have the time irl to do this. I'm sure I'm not the only one. My fear from the start with engineering was that it would affect gameplay too much in a negative way by forcing players to spend 60% of their time playing SC in fixing and replacing components. I think most will just be claiming their ships rather than replacing super expensive components.
