In case anyone has missed it https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000093467-Ship-Insurance-FAQs It's only a month old, so well past the "you can't lose ships you payed money for" post. couple of interesting points [underlined by me] What is insurance? Pilots in Star Citizen can purchase insurance policies for their ships, modifications, and cargo. This ensures that your ship will be replaced and/or its modifications and cargo will be subsidized should it be destroyed or stolen. As in real life, insurance policies must be maintained: You must pay a regular fee in galactic credits or your policy will lapse. If your policy lapses, you will not receive a payout or a ship replacement when your ship is destroyed. What happens if I don’t have insurance? Without insurance, when you lose your ship, you will need to buy a new ship at the full price of the vendor (or player) that is willing and able to sell it to you. If you don't have enough credits to cover the cost, you will need to complete missions for a third party (both NPC and player) until you've earned enough to buy your own ship again. How do I get lifetime insurance (LTI)? Anyone who pledged for a copy of Star Citizen before November 26, 2012 automatically has lifetime insurance on their pledge ships. This protects the pledge ships within the game in perpetuity. Anyone who pledged for a copy on or after November 26th starts with a finite insurance package for their ship. This can be anywhere from 2 months to 12 months depending on the ship and policy type. Lifetime insurance is also included in the “concept sale phase” of ships. Any other purchase will not have lifetime insurance as an option. Other insurance options will be available in game for a price. Lifetime insurance does not exist for modifications or cargo. So no, there isn't a "you can't lost a ship you paid real money for" policy.
