The flight model, and the general traversal method for the verse, is central to absolutely everything we do in this game. Even for those that focus mostly on FPS gameplay they need to get to and from their destinations. How this happens will affect how everyone plays this game. There are so many systems that are pointless to work on until the flight model and quantum boost mechanic is in. Off the top of my head: Any combat balancing for ships Any balancing of distances and distribution of resources in the game Any balancing of any profession that requires flight. Mining, salvaging, transport, exploration. Design of landing zones, cities and space stations. How spaced out are the pads? How big are the stations? What speeds will we be moving at? Design of planets, their sizes, distances to the moons and any orbital mechanics Design of ships. Will control surfaces matter a lot? A little? Thruster placement? VTOL? How will these impact gameplay? I'm sure there is more, but just those 6 points cover such a massive part of this game that it would appear everything is just on hold until SQ42 comes out. What was learnt from the Master Modes debacle should at the very least be that any flight model developed in isolation will need a LOT of work before it actually functions as intended in a multiplayer environment. This should be in game and iterated on from patch to patch as soon as possible or we are realistically looking at 2028 before we have a fully working flight model again. Regards An ever more concerned backer Edit: Just to be super clear this is not a dig at Yogi. He can only work within the framework he is given, but I cannot fathom why this is not prioritised above pretty much everything else. Would love to hear from some of the high level devs how they expect the implementation of a flight model will actually go down when all the systems it affects are already in place.
