I am backing SC since 2015 and man, I love this game. The immersive kind of gameplay is truly unique. BUT I am a casual player. I wont be able to spend several hours a week to care for a prosper business. Thats why I chose an Org, that doesn't have high expectations. The real live is always first. And since my real live demands a lot of my time, it's the exact right thing for me. In the finshed game, I expect to spend 3-4 hours ingame once, maybe twice a month. And lets be honest: You cannot really get anything done with less time. My main goal is to become a tradesman/hauler. This means, I will probably spend a lot of time Quantum traveling around the systems. Not to mention the time you spend getting your crew together, eventually fighting pirates and all other stuff that can happen. So since we have Loreville and Arc Corp, I start doubting, that SC will be playable for me. When you strictly follow your mission, you literally spend half of your time in QT and another quarter with approaching and leaving planet sides. And right now, I don't see, how I possibly should be able to get anything really done this way. Not even talking about beeing successfull, supporting my Org. and saving credits for bigger and better ships and upgrades. And I really have to ask myself, if 800+€ (about 900$), wich I since now pledged for this game, are worth it, when I ultimately wont play the game anyway, because it just doesnt pay off... So please CIG. Besides all the plans you guys have for QT und all the immersion Chris wants. There has to be a red line. I feel like SC is loosing the balance between Gameplay and Simulation. I mean, reducing loading time with mega map to just some seconds was a gread advance! But then implementing sequences, that take several minutes in wich you cannot really do stuff feels truly awkward. And on top, you cannot even walk away from your computer, to make yourself a sandwich or have a wee. You should not even leave the captains chair! Because there is always the possibility to be interdicted. Imagine the finished game. You jump to somewhere, get up to get yourself some water(in RL), get back and find yourself and your precious cargo beeing robbed by pirates, or torn apart by Vanduul. The current state of Quantum travel forces you to sit and wait. And since it is technically amazing, what happens during this time, and most of us are able to enjoy the immersion, it still becomes a pain in the ass the 20th, or 50th or 100th time you do it. And finally I come to the conclusion, that - although I know it's not - the QT is like a loading screen. So loading screens where basically completely removed, the PU is completely coherent, but then they are kind of atificially added again?! I know many people will see it differently, praising CIG for the TRUE immersion, the simulational aspect and so on. But for me, it becomes more and more an Issue wich makes me think about refunding. And THIS is really a sad thing, because I never stopped believing that SC will become reality. But I also never believed, that I could stop liking this gamne because of its gameplay. Please CIG. Make those QTs shorter. 3 min max. Explain it with exponential gain of velocity during the travel, and therefore higher use of fuel on bigger distances. Or whatever explanaition may sound adequate. But change it. ---------------EDIT-------------------- Since this is a topic, loaded with a lot of emotions, I'm gonna cite myself from the comments and make a concluding statement, so people do not have to react toxic abot my compliant. "As said, it just wont pay off for me in particular. And since I am not the only one feeling that way, I can just try to complain as well, hoping that CIG takes note about how people like me feel and maybe come up with some sort of compromise. If not: So be it! If I decide for myself, that I put a lot of money into a project that evolved in a way I didn't expect. Then I'll leave. No salt. I'll still be happy to have been a part of SC family. I'll get my SQ42 copy and maybe even get a copy of SC to stop by in the Verse every now and then. But if it happens that way, it will just be a sad thing. Because adjusting some screws on the QT mechanic doesn't seem like an impossible change to me. " Most people seem to be going straight with the QD as it is right now. But still, there are people like me, who have concerns. I think, as often, the best thing seems to be in between. Although I recognized, that long QT is important to fit in alongside other gameplay mechanics, such as the dynamic counter missions. And yes, the Information about long range travel has been around for long. But since there have been no tweaks in 3.5, I feel like complaining now, because, as all who think so would have said if I would have complained earlier: This is still Alpha. And I hoped, changes would have happened. But future plans don't look like reducing QT time. Casual gaming in SC context doesn't mean 10-20 minutes CoD Run & Gun gameplay. We talk about at least 3-4 hrs a session. If you feel like making a CoD, or BF comparision: Don't, At least, if you feel like saying, I would be a selfish dude just wanting to change the game, so it would fit my dreams: Carry your salt elsewhere. If the game envolves in a way, I don't like, than I take it to spectrum. That's what it is there for! And that's, why the SC community is what it is. Because the devs listen! If I don't like the result, then I will of course leave. Everybody would. I guess pretty much no one would dump money into something he/she does not want or cannot play. In the end, I will still be happy about having spent my spare time in the unfinished verse. I will be proud of having spent nearly the same amount of time in the Issue Council, constructively reporting bugs and helping the development, rather than distinguishing myself about the number of comments I made in Spectrum. And egocentric people, who are not able to comprehend that won't be able to make me feel like I would not understand what SC is about. P.S.: I welcome everyone who constructively takes part in a reasonable conversation. I already had a lot of good comments, wich made me see things clearer and will shurely help me making a decision. Thanks to everyone, not lighting up their torch just because I dared to offer criticism on holy SC.
