For some of us, the 'Content Driven' episode felt wildly off, in that a core principle of what made SC exciting seems to have been abandoned (at least for now). The USP of Star Citizen was always a living, breathing universe. This game concept would never be funded through the normal publishing route. Crowdfunding was the answer, allowing a unique game to be developed. After a very long time, we don't have a living breathing universe and development effort is being channelled into theme parks, FPS raids and events. It begs the question - if Star Citizen becomes all about theme parks, FPS and staged events - why did we need to go through years of crowdfunding? i.e. - the reaction to ISC is a reaction to cognitive dissonance in developmental direction. CIG may have developed some exciting IP and overcome some tech hurdles, but it counts for little if the focus of the experience for backers is on things which can be found in many many other games produced through traditional publishing routes. I don't think this proposed content is necessarily a bad thing, but I do think that CIG need to a) Confirm that the original goals still stand or b) Be clear to backers that this has been abandoned and why. If 'a' then put some meat on the bones as to how this is going to be achieved at a high level, and a couple of things we can expect. If 'b' then expect disappointment from the community. Worst option would be option c) ignore the issue and hope the people come to accept SC MK2. In many ways, this project is historic, and I hope it's remembered for its ambition and innovation, rather than for any perceived deviations from its original promise.
