3.18 has a G model in it that was not meant to be included. This comes right from the devs. Now to start this many have complained about the LF meta and there have been a lot of ideas how to balance it out but what most people don't seem to think about is GLOC is one of the ways to balance things and arguably the best. Allowing players to pull high Gs for long periods in a single direction during combat has quite a few detrimental effects on combat. If CIG wants to this can also help with the wiggle issue by GLOC a playing who is spamming strafes after X amount of high G spams. Human body doesn't like being shaken around that much so its not even immersion breaking but good game play and fun combat needs to be the priority anyway so fun over real IMO. So the issue with 3.18 isn't that its too punishing of G model. Its really nice to see red and black on vertical Gs however it takes way too long to GLOC in both vertical directions and IMO needs to happen much sooner but MMs soon so that can wait for now I guess. The issue is horizontal Gs. The original plan was to not effect the pilot from horizontal high Gs since we all assume the pilot is strapped in tight but instead the ship can rip a wing or thruster off from the stress of high G non banked horizontal G forces. I am not sure if this is still the plan but its in the old design docs. If its not the plan GLOC on high G horizontal moves is a perfectly fine alternative. In 3.18 holding a hard left or right boosted strafe will result in GLOC 2 to 3 times faster then high G up or down strafe. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me however it is really nice to have GLOC actually effect us again. The real issue is the way GLOC occurs in this situation. The screen starts to show the effect, loss of color, then flashes 2 times very quickly and then GLOC. There is no loss of vision starting from the outside of the screen moving inwards till you completely lose vision and GLOC. Adjusting to this is a little odd as its not how GLOC has ever worked in SC. When focused in combat this leaves no warning at all and we need visual warnings for things that effect the pilot since we can't feel them. In conclusion yes to more punishing G model as we desperately need this and when combined with over heat and tuned well will make combat much more fun and challenging. However having horizontal Gs not only more sensitive and GLOC with nearly no warning compared to vertical GLOC it doesn't make much sense. Testing showed we can hit nearly 1200m/s up or down when pulling full Gs before GLOC compared to about 500m/s left or right before GLOC with pretty much no warning besides 2 quick flashes. A quick example of what I think would be a good G model with current speeds when using full accel in the directions from a dead stop. GLOC at - 1000m/s forward, 350m/s backward, 600m/s up, 450m/s down, 650m/s left/right. Tricording and bicording can be handled depending on the strafes being used as some derivative of the single strafe numbers. These numbers are just off the top of my head. The point is to show an asymmetrical G model would encourage better flying and punish bad flying. All testing was done in a Glad and thanks for reading.
