Good morning, Citizens and Devs. I hope to promote a civil discussion here regarding the recent nerf for the Drake Corsair. I understand sometimes, when the community becomes passionate, that passion can evolve to what feels like blind rage, which is easy to want to ignore. This change, however, warrants real discussion, as it is a step backward in regards to the fundamentals of Star Citizens multicrew gameplay, as well as a contradiction to the design and heritage of Drake Interplanetary. First, to keep it simple - this change is simply annoying. While I am a huge advocate for multicrew gameplay and the reliance of a good crew to maximize the efficiency of such a vessel, this particular change offers nothing but an extra step monkey-wrenched in for no reason. The entire point of the Corsair is to be a huge, behemoth of a ship to fly, while providing their pilots with the ability to rain hell upon their foes if they manage to line up their shots just right. Considering the fact that the copilot already is slaved to the remote turret located aft of the ship as well as given the ability to utilize missile operator mode, having a third, seemingly redundant mode to cycle between makes it clunky. Furthermore, when pulling copilot control to the forward guns, they now lose the ability to use the remote turret, which is an incredibly important position. As we know, the Corsair suffers in any engagement with a foe smaller than itself - this is intended, and I believe it is a valid balance strategy, and forcing Corsairs to pick one gun set or the other just takes too much away at one time. Next, let's consider its direct competitor, the RSI Constellation. I would like to start by saying that I am an avid Corsair pilot and Drake enthusiast, but it has been tested time and time again since the release of the Corsair against the Constellation in 1v1 combat, and more often than not, the Constellation comes out on top. Whether this is because of the maneuverability of the Connie, or the smaller profile, or maybe the Corsair has fragile wings, who knows? Either way, the fact remains, statistically speaking, the Constellation is the superior ship in this regard. So why nerf the Corsair, and leave the Connie? Youre cutting the hand off a ship that already walks with a peg leg. Furthermore, let's just consider Drakes history, and their culture. Maybe I am stretching a bit here, but with how important lore is to not only Chris Roberts and the developers, but to the community as a whole, keeping consistent design language is a factor worth considering. Frankly, this just isnt something Drake would condone. this "Pick one or the other" approach to guns is silly, and I think we all know the Drake Shipyards Field Testing Day is likely one of the most celebrated days in the system. If you, as a development team, were feeling the Corsair needs a nerf, perhaps give us an explanation as to why. I think part of the frustration we are feeling as a community is because this change is seeming to come from nowhere. The Corsair has earned its place in the hearts of many, and this change directly contradicts the very soul of the ship. This aside, perhaps we can consider some other methods of nerfing the ship that make more sense. Now, I am no ship designer, and I do not have access to the information you have access to. Im only a mechanic, and frankly I hate when others tell me how to fix their car. However, I think if I told my customer I would have to give steering control for one of their front wheels to their copilot, they would feel the need to speak up, and in that case, I should probably listen. So, here goes. If the Corsair needs nerfed (which it doesnt) then consider factors based on things Drake would sacrifice on. The pillars of Drakes ship development are Armor and Guns. These two considerations must be paramount in the development of anything in Drakes line. Where it may suffer are areas such as shielding, component quality, overall reliability and especially maneuverability. Making this ship an unreliable pile of space junk, especially with engineering gameplay right around the corner, I feel is an amazing way to bring the Drake essence to life, while promoting multicrew gameplay that actually makes sense. Perhaps an accelerated decay cycle for its components, bump up the percentages on the fire table, add some extra fuses to manage. If you want to take power away from solo pilots, there is a great answer. Limiting the amount of power they can direct to their shields is another great way to force players to consider their positions. While armor is meant to be thick, it does not regenerate, so managing a fragile shield is a serious consideration anyone would have to take in a combat situation. And finally, keeping the ship slow and not maneuverable is the obvious choice, but come on- how much worse can it get? Let's open this up and talk about it. But please, from one pirate to another, lets keep it constructive. CIG cant hear us when we are yelling at them.
