Desync has become progressively worse with 2 specific patches: 3.11 and 3.13. In 3.11, desync was significantly worse that 3.10 and the same level of desync persistend until 3.13 where the game started to become unplayable. The common denominator for these two patches is that they each released respectively "force reactions" in 3.11 and expanded force reactions in 3.13. Force reaction is not just an animation of the player character, that is played randomly when the game decides that you "stumble" but a complex interaction that includes, ships, thrusters, weapons, weather effects etc. The clip below (3.13) is to illustrate how much force reactions affects you player character, to the point that it can send you clipping through the terrain: Force reactions are also so strong that it will occasionally bug your character. I've had experienced multiple times that force reactions make your player unable to walk fast or sprint (also 3.13 and the scattergun that everyone was using was particularly bad): The above videos serve to illustrate the large effect it has on a player character when hit by force reactions. A few nights ago I had the same scenario again. Same location too. It was basically a copy of the two scenarios above, with the difference that I was hit by CF laser repeaters (3.14). I was on the ground as above, and force reactions sent my character into a bugged state where I could only walk. Here is the major difference: Everyone (several bounty hunters and another player that was there to rescue me) teleported several km away. The shelter at Barton Flats started to stream out for me, lost collision and eventually started to disappear bit by bit (reverse of when late streaming in). Unfortunately, I wan't recording this. The bounty hunters all lost my marker and were very confused and eventually flew away. I let my rescue pilot know that I was still alive and at the shelter. He said he was at the shelter too, but was showing 7 km away on my screen! By some miracle, we were eventually able to meet up and I was able to get onboard his Cutlass. I sat down on one of the flip seats in the back in the hope it would get me synced. The other player was not able to see me and could interact with the seat I was seated in (I could see him like we were perfectly synced). That's when I finally got a recording going with QR code. I don't know if it will be of much help without the entirety of the recording, but here goes: TL;DR version: I think force reactions are causing a bug that makes players become heavily desynced. Potentally, this could be true for ship to ship combat as well, as the force reactions are always present. Ship weapons cause large force reactions on player characters. If I recall correctly, ship weapons also cause force reaction on other vehicles. It is known that player characters can be hit by ship weapons inside a vehicle (especially AOE weapons). Perhaps the player character can also be hit by force reactions that we can't se because the player is in the seated animation? Anyway, the developers will be better able to know the inner working of force reactions, and check out if there could be a connection than me speculating. If the thread gets a dev response that asks me to make an IC report, that they can flag internally, I will happily do so. I'm not going to make one that get 2-3 reproductions and then get buried to archived. I'm aware that this is extremely hard to replicate as we have no way of tuning force reactions off to make comparisions (but perhaps CIG does internally). Especially which effect it has on ship to ship combat is impossible for us to test.
