Disclaimer: I do everything in decoupled mode. I get into my Vanguard and take up a mission. Mission: Go to a wreck and get a box. Ok. I jump there, arrive near delimar but at a distance of 200 away from the wreck (all in space, not atmosphere). So I enter into AB in a simple straight line gto get there .... and it costs me 5% of my entire hydrogen fuel to do that. And at a speed of around 1100 m/s it still takes quite some time to get there. As fuel is very important this really feels bad for gameplay for me. I feel like I am being severely punished for travelling from A to B. Then I see something of interest on this rather uneventful trip from A to B and turn to look at it (in decoupled) and that simple intuitive and harmless pitch & yaw motion costs me ANOTHER 2% of my hydrogen fuel. In panic I go back to stare at my destination... which again costs 2% fuel. So I am now down to 91 fuel before I even had the slightest feeling of having properly started the mission. The loss of fuel for just simply going faster feels as bad as it would if getting up to speed would damage the ship one helth point every ten meters. ------------------ Creating what feels basically like a fuel-paywall to get up to travel speeds I find rather counterproductive for the overall flight gameplay. It tempts me to instead stay in SCM mode, point in the right direction, get out a calculator, calculate the time it will take to get there, and then go and make a coffee until I get there, in order to not waste fuel for nothing. I suggest, for example, to rather have the fuel cost applied only if the player wants to get up to highest speed very quickly. Pay only for the extra high acceleration, not for the top speed availability. Rather maybe have some sort of cruise mode where the acceleration is simply standard normal slower SCM acceleration with the same cost as we have during average SCM maneuvering. ------------------- I understand that this is probably this way intended to balance the use of AB in combat where it might work OK, but as it is also imposing itself onto us for the most simple traversal, for me at least this mechanic does not work out. There are lots of ways to do it in a probably more fun, intuitive and rewarding way. Another example could be to have fuel replenishment hightened when travelling long distances, so if I travel 100 km I get my fuel back that I invested which would then mean you only get that back if you truly intend and do travel larger distances and not just use it for small bursts in combat.... though I would prefer the suggestion above. Oh, and to use/lose fuel for simple pitch & yaw when all I want to do is just plainly havea curious look around really really feels terrible.
