Super short and sweet to begin : much of the combat and PvP-oriented community is very concerned with the situation surrounding Auto Gimbals and Fixed Assist weapon loadouts in 3.14 PTU - namely that as it stands there's no reason to run fixed weapons, no benefit to players who have refined that skill set. Granted, we're also in the middle of a sweeping balance pass, and weapons have all been "baselined" for which to iterate from, however this iterative process should begin with a fundamentally sound foundation that works well. Before 3.14 PTU two s1 guns have always, as an example more or less, put out damage falling somewhere between a s2 and s3 weapon of the same make - and this makes total sense, achieving a balance of sorts that allows for gimbaled play for lower-skill players, but still rewarding those who've worked hard to achieve a higher tier of gameplay. Here's an example, just to be clear, using the CF line of lasers in 3.13.1 : 1 x s2 Badger = 294dps 2 x s1 Bulldogs = 392dps 1 x s3 Panther = 440dps 2 x s2 Badgers = 588dps 1 x s4 Rhino = 660dps This balance between weapon sizes makes complete sense and allows for both Auto Gimbals and Fixed Assist to be viable in their own ways - giving a bit of booster for new or lower-skilled players with the aim assistance of gimbals, while also rewarding those who have put in more effort over time with a well-balanced DPS buff for fixed. However, here's the breakdown presently in 3.14 PTU for the very same weapons : 1 x s2 Badger = 400dps 2 x s1 Bulldogs = 720dps 1 x s3 Panther = 500dps 2 x s2 Badgers = 800dps 1 x s4 Rhino = 640dps As highlighted in bold above, the balancing is all out of wack in comparison, which basically incentivizes anyone and everyone to run (as an example) a full Auto Gimbal loadout on a Hornet - you'll legitimately do more damage on certain hardpoints and have the benefit of Auto Gimbals. This trend goes for pretty much all fighters as well in 3.14 PTU, because the DPS difference between the s1-4 range is so small that running loadouts on Auto Gimbals simply makes more sense for even high-tier players, throwing much of the skill set practiced for months or even years out the window. I'm confident I can speak for much of the combat-oriented and PvP community when I say that we're more than happy with Auto Gimbals being good, but that if a player has worked hard to perfect their flight and aim skills that Fixed Assist should be notably better. Auto Gimbals should not be hit with a serious nerf bat, but we wish the devs overseeing weapons tuning to please take a good, long look at re-balancing various size weapons against one another, specifically for the s1-4 range used by most fighters. In addition there are outlier factors, such as the size of the Gimbal Assist cone that could be perhaps be made smaller to help as well, or the notion of a minor Gimbal Assist "lock time" delay for targets entering the cone. Just a couple ideas, but by no means as impactful as the disparities pointed out above. TLDR : What are the devs doing in 3.14 PTU before taking the patch live to balance Auto Gimbals against Fixed Assist loadouts for fighters?
