I've tried 3.8.1 pretty extensively for the last 3 days and it has been quite the experience. Not in a good way though. To summarize (some points are general issues, not only 3.8.1 specific): NPC dogfighting behaviour NPCs act super weird, they fly in a stop and go manner and rarely shoot at the player Dogfighting in general fixed guns, missiles and countermeasures, need I say more? What's even weirder: It used to work just fine in previous versions. The very definition of disimprovement. Mining scanning for rocks is weird, sometimes the rocks just don't show up though they are definitely mining rocks sometimes rocks get detected but you cannot scan/mine them sometimes the fracturing laser doesn't work for extended periods of time, sometimes it starts working after a few minutes same thing with extraction lasers, today I made a test when I had this issue and it took ~5 minutes to start hovering up minerals from a rock piece HUD/Radar/MFDs WHAT THE HELL is that globe style radar? How did that stuff make it through Q/A? The HUD made a huge step forward with the drop shadows, my guess is you're working on it, thanks for that. Scanning HUD (for pings) is super low res. MFDs are still horrible to work with. Star Map Please, throw it out and replace it with the ARK star map. Despite it being browser based it's at least 10x better than what we have now in game. I would even prefer tabbing out to plot a course in the ARK star map to what we have now, that's how bad of a UI experience it is. FPS combat vs NPCs weapons still sometimes don't shoot when you pull them out (w/a: assign a key to inspect and press it and they fire) sometimes NPCs don't react to your presence sometimes NPCs become invulnerable but are still able to shoot at you, e.g. I hit this guy 20 times and emptied 3 magazines into him: grenades don't work AT ALL (most of the time they just disappear, sometimes they drop at your feet) Inner Thought / Interaction in general I know this will sound salty but how hard can it be to implement a usable interaction system? Inner thought is just HORRIBLE. How it should be: You interact ONLY with objects you point the damn cursor at. Not the thing below it, not the thing next to it, not a thing that's not even on my screen. It's called ray casting and has been a staple in the gaming industry for more than 20 years for a freaking reason. For things like ship ramps that don't have an actual button to push: Why can't I just activate it from ANY appropriate distance? Are remote car key functionalities gone in the future? What's the MobiGlass for? E.g. I just look at the back ramp of the Warden from <~15m away and it shows the "open" option. My character plays the animation for pressing a button on his MobiGlass. It feels like I just unlocked my ship with my MobiGlass which takes the role of car keys. I don't have to jerk around, I would be able to do this in one fluid motion on the run. Wouldn't that make sense?? Michael Knight was able to do that shit in the freaking 80s. On the topic of the Warden: as hard as it is to interact with its ramp from the outside, once you're on the ramp you're in for a treat: if you want to open the door to the inside if you don't stand max 10 cm away from it you will interact with nothing BUT the damn ramp. Why the hell are my thoughts attached to objects instead to the center of my screen? Either you make the character focus the object you activated interactions with or you just draw a line from the object to the menu which is centered on the screen. Why do we have to click on thoughts? We have mouse wheels, joysticks, pads, number keys etc. to scroll through or select options pretty fast. Here, have a few impressions: What really gets me worried It's not the NPCs (I guess single player AI differs a lot from MMO AI), Mining and other MMO specific gameplay loops, it's not the bugs and glitches like boxes falling through floors, it's CORE mechanics. SQ42 is due to go to beta this year. How is that even remotely possible when things like the UI including MFDs, HUD and Inner Thought, Starmap, FPS and ship combat and general gameplay elements are in such a bad state? Wouldn't it make sense to focus on those to get them out into the PU and test them extensively? Maybe I'm getting something wrong here. I know, Planet tech v4 looks amazing, you worked a lot this year but dammit, you want to go to beta this year and I don't see much progression in the UI, I even see some regression (radar), how is that going to work?
