It seems that with every new location, it MUST be filled with enemies. Humans, Aliens, Fauna, and whatever else. That's bad. For every location that turns into an active warzone by simply walking through the front door, there should be some counterpart that isn't that. CIG is scared of emptiness. Space is inherently lonely. It's big, and very, very empty but that hasn't been the case of late. Telling a story doesn't always need to involve slaughtering 75 gang members in a bunker. Sometimes it's text and audio logs inside of a derelict outpost or station. Sometimes it's spears through a skeleton left to decay over 5 years attached to a wall. Sometimes it's a crashed ship that hasn't moved in 3 years and is starting to get buried by dirt. Environmental storytelling will reign supreme over any forced narrative, especially when forced to engage in combat in a location that shouldn't have combat. Space is big and empty, CIG needs to remember that. I'm not asking for hundreds of locations with zero gameplay and nothing to do but sightsee, but I am asking for a handful of them that really make you remember that you're in space, in the middle of nowhere, and it's cold, dark, and lonely. There can be missions at these locations. Data recovery, investigation, and dare I say it, possibly even exploration. None of these require my rifle to be drawn and that's okay. Puzzles are good. Sometimes the journey is the antagonist. Sometimes there's something deeper you're there to uncover. Sometimes the people really did just forget to lock the door and left behind a hard drive. For every warzone in space, a haunting reminder of how empty it can be would be nice. A good soundtrack and environmental storytelling goes a very long way to making this verse feel lived in. CIG, please remember you aren't making a milsim or a war MMO. You're making a space sim, and space can do without combat sometimes.
