Since it's a new patch I feel that it's necessary to continue to at least try to bring CIG's attention on to how horrible the MM system is and how long it would take them to get this system into a state that is considered playable. Playable, not enjoyable. I apologise to everyone for the lengthy post but if we don't keep talking about this nothing is going to change and it will - clearly as of 3.24 - get worse. I ask though that any criticism offered though is kept informative for the dev's sake. Give them examples, experiences. Something to work with so we can hopefully get this fixed. Let's start with what I know of what CIG/CR is attempting to accomplish with this and why the entire concept is something that wasn't thought through beyond looking at a Hollywood film and thinking it was a cool idea. We know that CR in particular wants nose-to-tail dogfighting. Something that is impossible to accomplish in a game like SC where there is no punishment for coming to a dead stop aside becoming a stationary target. Coupled mode would need to be removed entirely for this design choice to make any logical sense. Players will always typically direct the pointy-end at the enemy meaning that jousting, what CR is attempting to stop, will inevitably become a death spiral/circle where two players just spin around each other and whoever has the biggest/most guns will be the winner. This means that nose-to-tail is an unlikely outcome. Slowing down aircraft more and more which has been a constant since the MM introduction has turned most of the lighter ships into targets for the larger. Again as a result of attempting to force players into this nose-to-tail rhetoric. Nearly all of them have a cruising speed slower than a several-decade old 747. And they have stated they want it slower. If we use modern multirole military aircraft with external weapons as an example we get an average cruising speed of approximately 283m/s. Most of these aircraft are decades old by now and have undergone several modernizations. If we look at the cruising speeds of the current "fighters" in SC while in SCM only the snub fighters manage to meet/break that speed. Yes, I understand that cruising speeds and combat speed are two different things however we need to remember that in SC those two things are entirely dictated by entirely differing flight categories, it's not a matter of just slowing down to do what needs doing, you have to swap the ship over to an entirely different system - like a Transformer, to be particularly childish. Though even they can attack while in their vehicle forms... Even the new Sabre Peregrine, a racing ship with no weapons falls underneath this average when in reality we would be having to use the F-22 as a more realistic benchmark for something like this - 514m/s. But the introduction of the Peregrine reinforces the layer of inconsistencies the Fury LX added.. Why have a SCM+NAV for a ship that has no weapons systems. It's a clear redundancy. While I admit the new NAV mode did add some much needed changes and clarity I feel that it came at the cost of what you do for >80% of the time playing Star Citizen. Basic flight. The need for a completely deactivated shield and weapons flight mode is.. Well it's frankly silly. There is no realistic modern reason and to think that technology would devolve over the course of the next 900 years given the state of the SC universe is nonsensical. It seems silly, at least to me, that anyone would design and offer a ship that can only run at 33% at any given time. Let alone a combat ship. Either all power to the engines, or split between engines, shields and weapons. What engineer would look at that and think, "Yeah, that's a good idea"? Now I know what some of you are thinking, it's a video game. Yes, it is, but it's also a video game that stepped into the boundaries of realism of it's own volition. To this day the dev teams continue to talk about making things realistic and believable. Take the recent cargo and inventory systems and how they are slated to be changed down the road. They want the game to be more realistic, not just boxes appearing and disappearing in your ship. The argument cannot be made at this point that an aircraft made some 500 years in the future which has been modernized over the course of a further 400 would be slower than the average of what we have now. To me MM was a mistake. Something that was forced into the game with no afterthought beyond the desire to; A. Stop jousting and, B. Try to force people into nose-to-tail. Neither of which will work because players will inherently do what is going to be the most self-sustaining method of engaging each other. Not being shot in the butt. The exploits that have propped up because of it have been detailed by many people since it was released to the PU and in a previous post last patch I expressed concerns about the MM PTU+PU release wiping out roughly 600-700k players in a single hit. If that much of a player base bleed isn't an indication something is irreversibly wrong I don't know what is.
