TL;DR: Dogfighting (fighters vs fighters) in Star Citizen 3.6k is mostly a straight up DPS race, because there is mostly drifting and no meaningful way of manouvering. Assisted gimbal aiming grants more hits (higher effective DPS) than manual aiming (fixed / manual gimbals). Adjust manouverability and aiming ASAP to make dogfighting fun again. An assisted aiming DPS race is neither fun nor engaging. In my personal opinion, dogfighting consists mainly of movement (which enables positioning) and aiming / firing. Both combined grants you an advantage in dogfighting, because you can hit better and get hit less. That's why manouverability and aiming should be the core skills for being succesful in a dogfight. Manouverability Fighters should be able to manouver themselves into a favourable position. If you outmanouver your opponent, you gain an advantage. The current tuning of the flightmodel doesn't allow meaningful manouverability, because accelaration values are very low. That in itself makes flying actual manouvers almost impossible, because changing movement takes a lot of time. Even if you mange to start getting into a favourable position, your opponent can just fly straight backwards at full speed and reset the dogfight. The current flightmodel should be tuned urgently to get to a state where it is skill based and engaging. Being good at manouvering as a skill should be encouraged and rewarded. Currently its mostly drifting around, leading to not being fun. Aiming After excessive tests (latest in 3.6k), assisted aiming still vastly outperforms manual aiming (fixed / manual gimbals). This leads to being good at aiming is not very relevant, but straight up exchanging hits using assisted gimbals without precise aiming performs better. Assisted aiming and manual aiming should urgently be tuned so that being skilled at aiming outperforms an auto assisted aiming. Being good at aiming should be encouraged and rewarded. Currently it is trading damage via assisted gimbals.
