Here's an extract from the PDF "IFCS 3.0" from John Pritchett: ESP, which stands for “Enhanced Stick Precision”, is a combat assistance mode. It assists the pilot’s control when tracking a target with fixed weapons. It accomplishes this by comparing the pilot’s actual pitch and yaw input against an optimal tracking solution and blending toward the ideal solution based on the correlation between the two. The goal of this system is to enhance the pilot’s own input rather than adjust the pilot’s input toward the ideal tracking solution. As such, the amount of assistance that ESP provides should depend on likelihood that the player is attempting to achieve the objective that ESP is assisting toward, namely to bring the target reticle over the target from the current position with zero overshoot. It should not feel as though ESP is directly providing the targeting solution, but only helping the pilot to achieve the intended targeting solution. I think there's nothing left to say. ESP doesn't equal auto-targetting nor auto-piloting. It should NOT move by its own, it should depend on the pilot ALWAYS. The name says it: "Enhanced Stick Precision". It's for fixed weapons (or locked gimbals) and it's made for joysticks. It should enhance the precision of the joystick, not move the ship by itself. No "but's", not "what if's", just DON'T. This is my own opinion of course.
